White van man
Well not necessarily white, driving vans, or even necessarily men.
I got cut up twice today travelling home from Cardiff on a dual carriageway by company vans (one even tailgated me travelling at 70mph about 5 inches off my rear bumper). I've often thought I should call up the companies that employ these cretins who can't drive and complain. Has anyone done this? And has anything happened? Or is it pointless?

I really do hate being tailgated by some mad lunatic driver doing a ton in the fast lane and being rather intimidating about it. The problem is, the M4 has always been a bit of a race track, especially when you get out of Wales and over the toll bridge (although it's only a toll going in to Wales).
I really wish drivers would slow down and would think a bit. Another annoyance is slow drivers pulling out into the middle and/or fast lane without looking in their mirrors or using any indicaters - DO THEY WANT TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR WHAT ???

I always think though that if you drive a company van, you're representing that company, so driving a company van badly is a bad advert for the company.
It wasn't the M4 I was on though (but yes I agree that can be a lottery sometimes), I was coming out of Cardiff up the A470 towards my home (Merthyr Tydfil).

Best one I ever saw was years ago in Wigan. blue transit drives past caked in sh*t with "if my wife was this dirty, I wouldn't be driving this van" on the back. I actually couldn't move for laughing.filecore wrote:Saw an appropriate sign written in the muck of one the other day on the M5:

Maybe if people didn't sit in the middle/over taking lanes poodling along and instead pulled into the left hand lane out the way, people at work in their van and trying to get home to see the kids for 10mins before they go to bed wouldn't be so close behind you flashing their lights and telling you all to bugger off into the right lane..?
Anyone sat in the outside lane on a motorway, divering along at 70mph deserves to get cut up from time to time..

Theres so many frustrating drivers on the motorway.
The dodgery old gits who in the 1st lane do 60 then causing lorries to overtake causing tons of queues are a pain.
The muppets who sit in the middle lane when the 1st lane is totally free, quite happy for people to queue up behind them to try to overtake them.
Then of course the 3rd lane, if people are doing a decent speed then fair enough but sooo many people seem to use it and overtake at a ridiculous speed causing tailbacks.
I admit i go over the speed limit, but when i'm doing say 80 i still have some idiot up my **** in the 3rd lane despite there being a ton of traffic ahead of me ! Not like i'm just clogging up the lane for the sake of it.

The speed limit laws in this country are an out of date joke, sure it would have taken 5 seconds to slow down from 70 - 30 in 1970's mk2 Escort, but todays cars are much better equiped to slow down safely much faster and doing 80-85mph in a moden, well maintained car is not dangerous.
An idiot doing 55-60 hogging the middle lane is more likey to be the cause of an smash up..
You cant win nowadays, when i'm in the 3rd lane i dont drive up the backside of someone BUT if i leave a proper gap you get people going into it so in the end i am near some cars backside because they all jumped into the gap !
On some stretches (eg M6) theres chevrons with signs saying 'keep two chevrons apart', yeah right ! Try doing that and everyones jumping in !
I do drive slower nowadays but since moving a few years ago (originally from down south moved up near Manchester) having long journeys all the time to drive down south to see mates/family i do hate hate motorways and all the stresses !

Hmm.... what makes you think that I drive like this? I was driving up the A470, overtaking a stream of traffic doing 70mph. The company van comes screaming up behind me after doing what must have been a ton. I CANNOT pull to the left as there were cars there. Plus I had a car in front of me who I was keeping back from. (I wanted enough room to slow and stop before the van slammed into the back of me). When there was enough space on the left hand side, I moved over. The van chops in front of me almost taking off the driver side wing.Opa-Opa wrote:Maybe if people didn't sit in the middle/over taking lanes poodling along and instead pulled into the left hand lane out the way, people at work in their van and trying to get home to see the kids for 10mins before they go to bed wouldn't be so close behind you flashing their lights and telling you all to bugger off into the right lane..?

People like this shouldn't be given a skateboard, let alone being left in charge of a company van. He wants to get home to see his kids? Sure, if he doesn't end up in the A&E department taking someone with him in the process.
Er yes it is. Especially if you're tailgating at 85mph. I swear that some people would even get into your boot if they could get any closer. If they want to flash their headlights at me, fine. I can flash my foglights at them. Plus, not everyone drives a well maintained car. And remember I was talking about a company Transit van so god knows what was on board - NOS canisters for all I know!Opa-Opa wrote:The speed limit laws in this country are an out of date joke, sure it would have taken 5 seconds to slow down from 70 - 30 in 1970's mk2 Escort, but todays cars are much better equiped to slow down safely much faster and doing 80-85mph in a moden, well maintained car is not dangerous.
Yes I do agree with this. Particularly if you're coming up at them in the left hand lane doing motorway speeds and have to cross two lanes to get to the fast lane to pass them.Opa-Opa wrote:An idiot doing 55-60 hogging the middle lane is more likey to be the cause of an smash up..
