The Outer Wilds

My XBONE X continues to amaze me. Because I watched Microsoft's E3 Conference on my console via their Mixer app, they gave me a free preorder for this upcoming game and a few DLC bits and bobs for Halo 5 and Gears 4.

Stepping back onto here after a looooong lay off....

Anyways, my most recent purchase has been an Xbox One S, and a bunch of cheap games: Dead Rising 3, Rare Replay, The Evil Within, Project CARS, Gears 4, Gears Ultimate.

Admittedly, I mostly bought the Xbox for the 4K Blu Ray capability (only cost me £10 more than a decent stand alone player), so the games are a bonus.

The S doesn't do 4k though does it? I thought that was only the X.

It does. Plays 4k Blu Rays and upscales 1080p output on games to 4k.

Xbox one S plays 4K films but I don;t think it plays the games in 4K does it?

Not in the same way as the Xbox One X which renders the games in 4k, but it does upscale your output from 1080p to 2160p. So the game still runs at 1080p, but your 4K screen is used in 4K mode.

Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes.

I think this may be the third time I've owned it.

Ordered from CEX for £42 which is the cheapest I could find it. It came in a tatty "Player's Choice" box and without the manual. I guess you get what you pay for. :|

Ouch, can't believe Gamecube games are valued that high. Had I known you were after this game, i would have sold you my copy of Twin Snakes for £41, cos what are old forum frenemies for eh?!

I really liked this port though. Think it was generally well received, but got some criticisms over the cut-scenes and dialogue. I just thought it was great they got rid of those mucky low-res textures, and replaced it with near-MGS2 level graphics and features (although I think technically the PS2 MGS2 is technically superior on framerate and detail). Think Silicon Knights did a nice remaster job on one of my all time favourite games overall (as I much preferred MGS 1 as a game/story to any of the others in the series).

Thanks anyway. Sounds like you're too fond of the game to sell it anyway though so thungs probably worked out for the best. I thought the price was good considering how much more it goes for elsewhere, I'm just more miffed about the condition.

The pricey Gamecube games that baffle me are things like Kirby's Air Ride and Star Fox Assault. I suppose they're somewhat rare, but if you look at their reviews they're not even that good. That's some expensive shelf decorations.
