Questions for Peter McConnell

Post by hareth » Thu Oct 18, 2018 6:23 am

Hey guys,

I’m working on an In The Chair feature about one of the video game world’s most prolific composers, Peter McConnell.

Peter has scored and produced music for countless titles, including Monkey Island 2, Day of The Tentacle, Sam and Max Hit the Road, various Star Wars games and more recently, Hearthstone. Along the way, he has been nominated for 25 Game Audio Network Guild Awards and won four.

Please feel free to share any questions of your own you’d to ask him, and they might make it into the magazine!

How many instruments can you play?

Would you ever consider composing music for retro machines, i.e pre-CD audio?

What film/TV programme would you like to have scored?

What were the biggest influences on your Tomb Raider compositions?

Are you a good gamer yourself?

Do you prefer composing for movie-inspired titles or original IP, and how does your approach to working on these two categories of games differ?

How did the idea for iMuse come about and did it end up being all you expected it to be? (The music for MI2 is awesome btw).

Is there any room for "programmed" music in today's AAA titles? Or at least selecting between different streaming tracks?
Where is sound quality heading - any support for 24bit 96KHz or something higher than CD standard anyway?
