Total Eclipse was released for the major 8-bit and 16-bit formats in 1989 as part of the Freescape series by Incentive Software Ltd.
Solve puzzles and explore the pyramid of RE the Sun God to save the world from ultimate disaster. A great pyramid was erected and at the topmost chamber a shrine was built For Re the Sun-God. The curse was set. Should anything ever block the sun's rays during daylight hours it would be destroyed.
It is now 26th October, 1930 and in just 2 hours the moon will totally eclipse the sun, triggering the curse of Re, causing the offending moon To explode showering the Earth with colossal meteorites that will engulf the earth, destroying it forever.....
Ovine have updated the graphics, music, sound and improved the gameplay of this classic game and released it to the new generation of gameplayers.
All the original rooms and puzzles are there to solve, with lots of secrets to find and new rooms added. Players who complete the game can automatically upload their scores to the online highscore tables.

Just found the secret retro arcade, superb.

Looks pretty.
I'll give it a bash tomorrow sometime.
EDIT: This is really quite brilliant. There was a very minor control issue with the mouse (I had to switch from a trackball to a normal mouse) but otherwise this is very lovely indeed. Thought I'd breeze through it since I played the original quite a bit back in the day. Obviously my memory isn't as good as I thought because I got stuck fairly early doors. I like the secret rooms.
Get downloading this game people. It's quality and it's free.

Looks great. I know this is an old post, but it is a good remake so this should help out and especially bumping the post up as well. I haven't played many freescape games. I always admired them though, and remember looking at the reviews (particularly in the old Games Machine magazine). Looking forward to Driller remake as well, I am downloading that now.

Yeah a different game altogether! It is based on the old Freescape engine (a 3D engine, I suppose not that sophisticated by today's standards!). Check out the Driller remake as well. As for running on the Mac, maybe you could use the Virtual Machine software nowadays to run it with a copy of XP or Vista!
