This is moving on from Sega's Modifying Consoles thread, as it was diverting from its intended subject.
The only car that I modified was my old Suzuki Baleno 1.6, which was like the Japanese version of the Ford Escort. I got bored of it being so slow as it only did 96bhp. First I got some alloy wheels replacing the stock metal ones, then an induction kit and then a racing type backbox to replace the standard exhaust which would have added maybe 15bhp more. I got all the other bits like vinyls and those Sparco seat belt covers to top it all off. I sold it later on and bought a Honda Prelude 2.2 VTI which turned a lot of heads and got wanted/unwanted attention. Most of the time I drove around there would always be somebody tailgating me, trying to provoke me into doing a race. At first I ignored them, but after a while it just wound me up so anybody that wanted a race got it. I also sold that car as I changed jobs, then went into unemployment so no way would I have afforded to keep that car.
I would give advice to a younger person so as to not "chav up" their car. Thinking about it, its best they start up young, or else they end up like those old people driving around in their Porsches and convertibles and I find it very embarassing when I see them showing off. Its like they missed out on excitement when their young, then bought a flashy car to make up for lost time. So anytime I see a really nice coupe guaranteed it is always an OAP, as they have driven the best looking cars I have ever seen. So you have a choice. Boy chav racer or mid life crisis Porsche pensioner.

I like modding but not just for appearence. All my Mods bar the paintwork are going to be done in the aid of peformance, and I cant afford to go running straight into it so It will be done Gradually, progressing up to a complete engine change. I can quite happiley do all this of course as Car fettleing is what Im trained in and why go through a concession of cars if you can find one your happy with? Im proberly going to stick with the escort until fuel becomes as costly as gold then its back to the old Saracen :lol:

whatever you do to your escort please ensure it involves twin DCOEs there's nothing like that throaty weber roar :D

my experiences of modding were from the times of old before bolt on bits of plastic, we made shitty slow cars go very fast, basically bigger engines on lower ratio gear boxes, no top end but 0-60 like a fecking bullet :twisted:

i've already mentioned on sega2006's console modding thread about a mk1 mexico me and a couple of mates had, we took the standard engine out and fitted a granada 2.8 v6 lump into it straight onto the standard gearbox via a bit of codging and bodging, that car went like a bullet but was a deathtrap as we didn't bother touching the brakes and left them as standard :lol: another mod was a talbot sunbeam i had, i stripped the rear diff and welded up the planetary gears so it would just lock the diff meaning both wheels rotated at exactly the same speed regardless of which way you turned, just so i could get the ar5e end out on every corner :twisted: i was drifting donkey's years before the need for speed bunch turned up :lol:

I've modded most of my cars, a completely mangled body shell, a scratch here, a dent or 2. I've not got round to modding my current car yet but I'll get to it sooner or later.

More into the crash, bang and wallop method are we :wink:

Im proberly going to get a Weber on the escort straight away, it would be nice if the engine was a 1300 crossflow too as that would give the car a bit more of an edge straight off. Lowering and bigger wheels Ill proberly do first, Im not going to go mad though, a cheap set of Alloys that look alright should do the trick as the bigger the wheel the lesser the rolling ressistance so a little more speed although not much is gained. Any bits I will get will proberly be used or off ebay.

Never modded any of my cars. I'm on my 8th now !

I 'modded' my bike when i was 12 by putting a bit of strong cardboard with a peg by the spokes to make a noise !

My two biggest hates in life are chavs and chavved up cars. Cringe with embarassment if two young chavs are driving through town on a friday night (over and over and over) blasting out some crap R&B rubbish and pretending theyre cruising LA or something. They normally have some crappy 500 quid car and think bad paintwork, some daft bodykit and stereo makes them look so cool when its just embarassing.

Big OTT bodywork, or a stupid exhaust just make me laugh out loud as i see them cruise past me or go through town. Just cringeworthy.

You do realise you can have them booked for those exhausts dont you, most of the break the acceptable noise limit.
I most certainly wont be driving around blareing out R'n'B because 1. I hate R'n'B and 2. My car proberly will have no audio equipment what so ever in the aid of weight reduction

I have only really done some basic stuff with exhausts and engines. On my first car a Ford Cortina I fitted new carburettors. I think I put on shiney new hub caps, and fitted a stereo with a CD player. On my old CSL I did fit a sports exhaust as the old one was rusty. On my current car (Nissan 200 SX) I have modified the turbo, and got a gauge inside for the boost, and fitted a dump valve. I am thinking of chucking the dump valve and seeing if a blow off valve will work better. Interestingly I was thinking of getting a Honda Prelude as my next car, what are they like sleeper 77? I was thinking of getting a Renault Alpine A610 (as an alternative to the Honda), I don't know what the engine at the back will make the handling like (but I am used to going sideways in my CSL).

I agree that the chavved up cars look a bad. Playing gangsta rap and R and B, with the stereo system that costs more than the car, also the whole boot taken up with subwoofers and pre amplifiers and stuff. The neon lights are bad as well. I have seen a car which has them on its windscreen washers!

I also hate those stupid number plates, the illegal ones where they have some tacky font or something. Must admit i didnt realise they were all illegal, you see a lot less of them nowadays but still see a few. Weird though as often you see one of those italic number plates and its some old couple driving ! (You would expect some young chav)

Oh I do love watching Chavmobiles get MOT'd because MOT testers like Sexy Wayne do make them rip all the stuff that made their car 'Blinging' off.
You would have thought the burkes would have learnt by now.
Another intresting and dodgey loophole I learnt whilst trialing at once place was that you could drive your souped up car in with no Cat (It strangles the engine, removing it gives better exhaust flow and power at cost of emissions), have one bolted on, do the MOT and then take it off again.

When i was younger the car to have was a Ford Capri...
I managed to get my mum to insure a Capri 2.8i special for me that i bought.
It was the Evo of its day...Practically nothing could touch it .
The only modifications i had done on it was to change the wheels for light weight alloys and a stainless steel exhaust system....

My mate had the 2.8 Capri, was amazing how fast it was, in second gear he got up to 60 or 70 and the car sounded like it could take more.

He did drive like a **** in that car though ! It was just so easy for him to overtake any car when he wanted to. Shame they obviously had such a boy racer name but classic old skool car though. We all took the mick out of him as he drove it how you thought a Capri driver would but it was amazing how fast it was

Id love a Capri but even on the 1.6 Laser the insurance is way too high, despite the fact you can get one for £200 on the road if you look in the right place
