Future Classic : Vanquish

Post by retrojc » Wed Jan 28, 2015 8:42 am

I started playing Vanquish for the first time last week, starting to get towards an end. Quite clearly a game that was unfairly overlooked by the vast majority of the public, and a game that is not too far away from being perfect. It stated that Vanquish has sold almost 1,000,000 units worldwide, but I don't see it all that often in my local game stores, so may be worth picking a copy up if you get the chance.

I really just wanted to say that Vanquish is a future classic.

I've got the one with a hologram sleeve that I bought for something daft like £2.98 but haven't played it yet. Definitely not a game that I'd get rid of without actually playing it first though.

Vanquish is one of my favourite games of last generation. Absolutely stunning and the closest thing to an 80s arcade run+gun translated to 3D as we're ever likely to see.

Ahh yeah I remember that release, I don't have that version. I do have that version for DarkVoid, which as a game is meh.

Vanquish I wholly recommend you play, it is more enjoyable that any 3rd person shooter I've played, except Gears which is pretty good too. It's got some really cool environments, and battles that allow a lot more interactivity than some of its peers, and the graphics are kinda futuristic 'outerspacey', which is well up my street.

Another overlooked but very enjoyable 3rd person shooter is Rogue Trooper.

One of my favourite 360 games, simple controls, nice graphics and a true sense of speed particularly when your sliding around, great fun, im sure i;ll revisit it one day.

One of the best games on the 360, shame there will never be a sequel.

Vanquish is a fantastic game. its really well polished and a lot better than some of the bigger games that were around at the time.

I'll echo the praise for it. One of the best games I've played in the last few years. So much fun, looks fantastic, and has a great sense of reward as you take down huge foes.

I'm always on the look out for 360 games that I have missed, Vanquish looks good, will have to check it out.

what does it play like, any other 360 games it is similar to?

Think Gears of War on speed, with focus on style. Its got Platinum Games written all over it

I've had this in my pile of shame for a couple of years now, it's slowly making its way to the surface.

More praise here....it just oozes classic run n gun arcade action. Big bosses, big guns and great soundtrack...

only played three Platinum Games, err, games, but I have enjoyed everyone, all very similar, simple game play with great stories and music

Vanquish
Bayonetta
Binary Domain

Rogue Trooper, Vanquish and Binary Domain. A trio of righteous win. Not exactly ignored but definitely underrated imo.
If it's slower than me, dumber than me and it tastes good ... tough titty.

Binary Domain isn't Platinum

I've never played it. Heard lots of good things about it though
