Re: RetroN 5 Thoughts
Tried again tonight. SNES sounds perfect from boot up, but seems to get a hit more off as you switch games. The MD stuff just isn't right though. I've played with regions and 50/60hz options as I'm aware some games were kind of optimised for over here but it just flat out sucks. Horribly disappointed.
Re: RetroN 5 Thoughts
It's odd because none of the people using the system on this thread apart from yourself are getting these issues. It makes me suspect you may have a faulty Retron.

Given there are no PC emulators that get Mega Drive sound totally correct I would be very surprised if this does, especially as it's using existing emulators. There are a few, like Fusion, though that do a decent enough job.
Re: RetroN 5 Thoughts
The sound is fine. Nothing stuck out as being hugely wrong so I didn't mention it. I wonder if some aspect was due to playing a console via HDTV speakers which are utterly wank for the most part.

Yeah but this dude is saying the music is completely high pitched and wrong and i'm certain Naka could tell if this was happening on his unit. For the record I've never really noticed sound issues on MD emulators but maybe i'm being a dullard... also it has been many years since i played an actual Megadrive console as opposed to an emulator. The Laird wrote:Given there are no PC emulators that get Mega Drive sound totally correct I would be very surprised if this does.

Anyone watch Gamesack. they did a review of the retron 5.
Thing is with these guys, music is a big big deal and they are pretty anal about it. for the MD they said that while not 100% its as close to the original genesis so that most people would not care and it does a good enough job for them.

Re: RetroN 5 Thoughts
I spent just a couple of hours with the system, hence it not being an in depth review on my blog but I never noticed any major issues.

I am still on the fence about one, I have my birthday in a few weeks. I know I am getting cash from most of the family so I might get one with that

Re: RetroN 5 Thoughts
Simple thought? Not for me as I prefer to use the actual Hardware rather than an emulated system. BUT having said that it is very convenient to have if you dont want to have several systems out and setup at the same time like I have. I don't like the fact that they pretty much ripped off free to use emulators for this product.... that IMO is totally wrong! but I like that you can use controllers for NES, SNES/SFC and Mega Drive/Genesis. Its good that it has HDMI output and of course the emulators have scaling and filtering features.... but why didn't they include composite? I appreciate not everyone games on a modern day HD TV.

Ok so on the Funstock site it states the following
"European version with CE Mark and upgraded hardware" - What's the "upgraded hardware"

This is in reference to the earlier models that had the faulty pins. A few people have emailed us asking if this is the old or new system - the old one being the one that released early 2014 in the USA and had frequent pin issues. After the first batch released Hyperkin changed the components and manufacturing process and our stock is from the new "upgraded" stock.rocky1980 wrote:Ok so on the Funstock site it states the following

Hope this helps!

I didn't look at the box Andy but what's the deal with the battery saves? It is something of an issue. Do you know what causes it and if not, are consumers warned?

It's not something anyone has commented on to us as yet. I seem to recall it was resolved via a FW update anyway (although I may be wrong).nakamura wrote:I didn't look at the box Andy but what's the deal with the battery saves? It is something of an issue. Mine's arriving tomorrow. I got all excited and bought a Japanese copy of Super Mario RPG, before realising that ordering a RPG that is entirely in Japanese probably wasn't the best idea. Thank goodness a firmware update allows fan translations!
I did buy my Retron 5 on eBay though, so don't worry - I didn't give Funstock any of my money
