Re: The Greatest Games Of All Time
I'm in two minds as to weather I remove Elite for Elite 2 or Wii Sports. Mad as that seems, Wii Sports was and still is one of the best multi player games ever released.

There's been some good responses, both here, on facebook and other forums.

Re: The Greatest Games Of All Time
Oh what the hell, here goes:
1. Super Mario Bros 3
The best game on the NES, in my opinion. Probably the best Mario game ever made too.
2. Tetris
I owned very few games for my Gameboy, but I didn't care, because I had Tetris.
3. Space Quest 3
Sierra made a load of classic adventure games, but Space Quest 3 is the one that stuck with me. I don't know what it is, but the game feels so big and it feels like you're exploring an open universe even if you aren't. Even the arcade sequences (a lot of which were real stinkers in other Sierra games) were playable and fun.
4. Doom 2
Doom is my favourite FPS series (I even enjoyed 3) and Doom 2 is easily the best game in the series. The super shotgun is the most satisfying weapon in any game ever.
5. TIE Fighter
TIE Fighter is the game I think of when I think of old school PC gaming. Sitting there for hours with my Wingman Extreme piloting a simulated space ship, firing lasers, managing my fighter's power levels, directing my wingmen and getting involved in an intricate plot based on the most holy of sci-fi series.
6. Ridge Racer Type 4
The last good Ridge Racer. Fun arcade physics and no silly commentator. I got the special edition japanese version that included the original arcade game in both the original launch Playstation version and the new Ridge Racer 4 engine version. The difference just showed how much developers were extracting from the ageing Playstation hardware.
7. Quake 2
Another classic FPS from id. They really knew how to put together a first person shooter.
8. Deus Ex
Deux Ex was a revelation to me. I never really got into RPGs before this game, but Deus Ex showed me that you can have an RPG and not have to fill it with rats and spiders and goblins. It is the reason Skyrim (itself an amazing game) isn't in my top 10. I didn't immediately take to Deus Ex though - I really struggled early on and I gave up at least once. Once it clicked though, man I was hooked.
9. Fallout: New Vegas
Another epic RPG that isn't your usual Tolkienesque fantasy faire. New Vegas might not be perfect, but in a game this complex you kind of accept the minor problems. New Vegas' reputation system is so intricate, your actions in one town or even to one NPC can have enormous consequences, I can't imagine how long is must have taken to get this game into the state it is in now.
10.Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword
or Civ expanded to the hilt. Civ IV was already the best Civ there ever was, but by the time we got to Beyond the Sword it was the most in-depth Civ game ever. I really hope Civ V gets to this advanced state at some point.
So many games I had to leave out - Wipeout XL, almost every Lucasarts game, Lemmings, Gran Turismo 5, Skyrim...

Re: The Greatest Games Of All Time
Similar for me, but Half-life 2 and Doom would probably not make my top 50. Some of the games I would have above them would have people pissed.stvd wrote:Resident 4 wouldn't make my top 50, SoR2 wouldn't make top anything.gman72 wrote:i can already tell what the top 4 will be. not in order but...

Now I'm home and on the PC... Streets of Rage 2. Never played it - never even seen it!
