Re: Do you keep or bin Video's and DVD's
I have hundreds of DVDs. When I studied film at college I was buying 3-4 films a week at least and that was 10 years ago so it's all built up. I have traded lots in to CEX that I wont watch again, or that were high in value.
I've picked up a few VHS tapes recently as my son has a tv/video combi in his room. I got 6 videos for £1 in a charity shop the other day. Digimon and Disney stuff. I dont care if they get wrecked as they were pennies. Rather they get hammered than more expensive DVDs going in and out the machines getting scratched

I Music Magpie'd most of my DVD collection earlier this year. They give you bugger all per disc but I had that many I got around £90 back so was worth it for the space back!

I prefer the real Hardware always.
Ive got some nice boxed sets on VHS, ive got betamax films and even V2000 films.
I will always buy dvds and cds as opposed to downloads, and i still collect and buy vinyl too, i just cant get excited by a download,

Different, not for everyone, but unless there's animals involved or something like that I find it hard to accuse consenting adults of being disgusting for doing something that gives them pleasure. 'Fetish' is a rather broad brush, so its hard to tell where you're drawing the line there.James A wrote:German Fetish stuff is pretty grimAntiriad2097 wrote:^ what do you consider 'disgusting'?

And Hitler. This is the internet, we're obliged to mention him.

It is probably disgusting to most people but it was something like "down on the farm" and Im hoping that it wasnt a real horses penis. put it that way, a lot of people find 2girls1cup bad but i could tolerate that more than farm stuff. But that is indeed going off the topic now.Antiriad2097 wrote:Different, not for everyone, but unless there's animals involved or something like that I find it hard to accuse consenting adults of being disgusting for doing something that gives them pleasure. Back on topic.
Ive noticed that regardless of how well you keep your vhs tapes, they all seem to go mouldy in the end. sad.
Re: Do you keep or bin Video's and DVD's
I've got loads of DVDs. I can't be bothered to pay the extra cost for Blu-Rays. Even the best blockbuster films eventually end up going for under a fiver on DVD in supermarkets as soon as SKY Movies start to show them.
When I get too many, it seems too much hassle to try and resell them. Fortunately the ASDA car park near me has several charity bins, and one of them is for Oxfam books, CDs and DVDs. Anything I don't want anymore goes in there. Up to them if they want to sell it or bin it, but if some volunteer wants to go to the trouble of sorting it then the quid or so it makes will make a much bigger difference on one of their projects than in my pocket.

I keep DVDs but copy them straight onto the computer and put them away in storage. I only tend to buy films and tv series that I know I'll want to keep. Anything I'm not fussed about, I'll either rent or stream it (via Netflix or something similar).

Re: Do you keep or bin Video's and DVD's
I currently have fourteen shelves of DVDs and five cabinets of videos - throwing stuff away seems to be an alien concept here. Videos are too cheap to NOT keep getting - there's a shop near mine that does TWENTY for a pound, ha!
Meanwhile - people rip DVDs to their computers? How's that done? Same way as with CDs?

^ Pretty much - you just need a program that'll break the copy protection.
I suppose I'm not allowed to post any links even though I'm 100% sure any rips you do will be entirely for your own use but Google "DVD decrypter" and I'm sure you'll find something.
Then once you've got an ISO or a VIDEO_RM/VIDEO_TS folder on your hard drive you can use something like DVD Shrink to extract the individual video files.

The copy protection on DVDs is practically non-existent. There are free tools that'll do the job, albeit mostly ones written several years ago that haven't been maintained.Liamh1982 wrote:^ Pretty much - you just need a program that'll break the copy protection.

The battleground has since moved to Blu Ray, where disks will eventually get cracked, but you're generally not going to be able to rip brand new ones.

Re: Do you keep or bin Video's and DVD's
Ive had some trouble with the odd bits n bobs on a few tapes. on some things going back to early 90s i try to record on my vhs to dvd player and itll come up copyright protected. These are pre recorded tapes not shop bought films, then later on in the tape another program will start and you are able to record it to dvd fine. there must have been some kind of copyright signal thing on the tv at the time.
