I'm sure I finished one of the old SSI RPG's

think either Demons WInter or Wizards Crown

had it on Atari ST late 80's

then it would be Zelda LTTP.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening on the GameBoy, my first cartridge console.
Particularly memorable as you truly felt reluctant to be the one to bring it all to an end.

Not being a fan of story crap, I think I've only ever finished two of them, period.

Those two being the original Wild Arms, and also Okage (PS2).

Shortly after that I stopped caring about the genre.

Either LoZ or Rygar on NES. I remember playing them round the same time but can't remember which I finished first.

It was the first rpg i ever played as well as finished. That game was the one to kickstart my love of the entire genre. No idea why i didn't play any 8/16 bit titles when contemporary...they just passed under my radar. :?
Vii viii and ix are the best though I enjoyed x and was addicted to xi until I couldn't afford it and found out I would have to wait a year to reactivate my acount and then xii was eh alright i guess and xiii was more of a movie Haha good music though ok story but awful gameplay I gave up after a few hours

Dungeon Master on the Atari ST I'd say was the first fully-formed RPG that took over my life until I completed it. I'd still rate it in my top three RPGs of all time.

I'd played Out of the Shadows on the ZX Spectrum and Bard's Tale on the C64 a lot before Dungeon Master, but didn't complete them.

Soul Blazer in the SNES (if ARPGs count)
Standard RPG? Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest.

Out of the two I finished soul Blazer first.

It must be Dungeon Master for me, I can't remember too clearly. That's one of the games that you can't just start to try a few levels, you'll end up trying to finish the game

Moria on the Oric 1. Vaguely roguelike, it's not a great game. But it might have been Grail, which is essentially the same game with some different UDGs. Felt a bit ripped off when I found that out, but I liked them at the time so they still got plenty of play. I seem to recall on one of them you could finish it in two moves on the first game. The random level generation wasn't very random, so from a cold boot if you loaded the game the first level would let you find your target object by going down, then south, every time.

I can't remember the first RPG that I beat, but I'm pretty sure I can remember the first RPG that I played: Final Fantasy 3 on SNES. I used to rent games pretty regularly (2-4 times a month), so I played a pretty good variety of games. One day, I decided to rent FF3 (probably because the screenshots on the back looked intriguing), and I gave it a try. I remember being really confused the first time I entered battle. It was such a novel / unique experience, unlike anything I had played before.
