Underrated video game characters
What video game characters do you feel don't get a fair shake of the stick?
For me...
Waluigi - Yup, seriously. I know he's almost universally loathed, but to me he's so ridiculous he becomes excellent. He's genuinely funny in the games he's playable in, and I'm gutted he's not a playable character in Smash Bros (yet ROSALINA is?!) If I asked you to sum up Mario's personality in a sentence I think you'd find it hard. With Waluigi, if you've played any games he's in I feel like you'd be able to do this quite easily. He's got a clear sense of character, and he's great fun to play. I'm not trying to say Waluigi is better than Mario, and he's obviously not more iconic - but you know who he is, and what he's supposed to be. I like him!
Knuckles - One of the original "trio" of playable Sonic characters, but there seems to be a real attitude that the only "good" character in the world of the blue hedgehog is Sonic himself (discounting villains) - while I'd agree that the people introduced post-MD era are pretty gash, I reckon Knuckles has a load of potential as a lead protagonist. He's much less annoying than Sonic, he looks like a total badass and he can glide! What's not to like?
Tom Nook - Despised by Animal Crossing players around the world...but isn't that the point? In some ways isn't he one of the greatest antagonists of all time? Subtle, and not entirely obvious. Heck, he's Nintendo's Gus Fring. Who wouldn't buy Smash Bros if he was a playable character simply just to beat the crap out of him??
Raiden (MGS2 edition) - Oh come on, he's not that bad.

Chuck D. Head...

Some people seem to see him as inferior to that kid from Magical Flying Hat Turbo Adventure. That is ridiculous.

Toad.
Strong as an ox, a mean little kart racer and he seems like a fungi.*

Re: Underrated video game characters
Sparkster - had way more personality than 90% of the other try-hard mascots
Falco from Star Fox - he's a badass, 'nuff said
Tails - well, until they gave him a voice
Rose from Street Fighter - always overlooked but fun to play as and one of the few female fighters who doesn't rely on sex appeal
Honey from Fighting Vipers - ok, she does rely on sex appeal, but why hasn't she been in any further games?
Violette Summer from Velvet Assassin - will probably never get another game, which is a pity because she's a rather interesting protagonist

Ristar. A fantastic Mega Drive game with a pretty cool title character.
Yours sincerely, the little voice in your head that talks when you read.

Adam from Streets of Rage.
Best damn character in the first game, only to be kidnapped in the second, and a support character in the third.
At least the guys who made SoRR fixed this injustice.

Vega! Yes. He is awesome. I remember despising him in original Street Fighter 2, as he was so tricky to get past in the bosses. Was delighted in Street Fighter II Turbo that I could actually BE him, and use him to beat himself (that sounds so wrong)!RetroAerosmith wrote:Dhalsim or Vega
Dhalsim was awful though in my opinion. But thats because I could never really get him to work for me, he was too slow.
