This was a lot more fun that I thought it would be.
I liked the fact that it's easier to recover from death than the first R-Type, where dying just meant RESET from stage 6 onwards.
On the other hand, the 2nd loop is more brutal.

I bought this on XBLA recently, and found myself being bothered by it less and less. It really is brilliantly put together, just a shame about all the tight spaces!
