Re: Laserdisc Player question please help....
Just moved so finally got everything back out of storage. Plugged my player back in and it still works. The tray needs a bit of a clean and lubricating but other than that considering its age it's still ticking.

Re: Laserdisc Player question please help....
I've seen various figures that put the total number of LD releases in the 20-50,000 range. Obviously you're not going to want all of them but I managed to build up a collection of a couple of hundred without feeling as though I'd more than scratched the surface.stayAwhile wrote:I want LD player but how rare are the movies and how many are there?
As for the rarity of individual discs, most pressings were in the region of 500-5000 copies. Some really popular ones might be in the hundreds of thousands, but that's just for things like the Star Wars boxed set.

ive got about 400 discs now for the laserdisc players and the CED versions.

I think TV series disks were always less common than films.
I did have a few Star Trek Next generation disks somewhere, although I think I gave at least one of them away.

Oxfam in Chelmsford still had some for sale last time I popped in there (about 2 weeks ago)
Spotted the specialist and crimson tide among other 90s legends haha
I got excited because I thought they were soundtracks for a minute lol

I got very lucky early on in the boot sale season last year and bought a Pioneer CLD-D515 for £8! Its huge and works perfectly. I only have 4 laserdiscs though:
Escape From New York
E.T (this has a scene only found in the laserdisc version apparently!)
Return Of The Jedi
Total Recall
