Porter is one of my favourite types of ale - but I have been drinking Port (as in the red wine ) and a 20% it soon sends me into snooze land

You know the "Duff beer" is The Simpons, and a couple of years some company released it for the real world - well, I got a crate for Xmas. It's okay - but it does just taste much like a lot of lagers. It's 4.7 %.

Sounds... interesting in a 'might not be buying that' kind of way
Tonight I have another bottle of port
I like this stuff too much.

OMG! A 'Budget' trip to Tesco has turned into not so budget.
Got to the Beer isle and looked through the ale section (with a few nice ales to select) and moved onto the craft beers section only to find Courage Imperial Russian Stout (10%) on a REDUCED TO CLEAR label
One whole British pound will now buy a bottle. So, knowing that I love this stuff I made a little room in my trolly and emptied the shelf of the last 17 bottles
I then had a chat with the chap stocking the shelves and asked if there were any more? He pointed to the last 3 cases of it on the top shelf... so I bought 2 of them too
So yes, I bought 65 bottles of 10% Imperial Russian Stout.
If anyone near Tower Park in Poole wants the last case of 24, I suggest heading over before tomorrow night

Re: Real Ale Drinkers or Lagerboys?
Here's a couple that I tried lately :-
Hopdaemon Incubus - A dark brownish ale with a malt-like finish to its flavour.
Deeside Brewery Swift APA - 3.8% - A light ale with a light golden colour. Easy to drink as it's quite a low ABV. Good hoppy flavour.
Canterbury Brewery's Christmas Pudding Ale - Does exactly what it says on the badge. Tastes like everyone's favourite Xmas dessert.
Canterbury Brewery's Raisin Stout - Slightly taste of raisins in a good old fashioned stout.
Canterbury Brewery's Torpedo - A golden coloured ale with a crisp aftertaste.

I have a 10ltr Bag in box ale here
I got my eldest son a job in a brewery!! Starting as work experience with the college he attends - but will go into part time work and hopefully as a fully fledged trainee brewer.
Anyway, at the end of his first week (and that was 60 hours) the owner decided to pay him... with BEER
So, yes there is a 10 ltr bag in box Bournemouth Battleaxe (6.3%) on the side in the Cheap MDF rubbish. It's very very nice too.
So if you ever get the chance to try anything from The Bournemouth Brewing Co. - you may be drinking ale that my son made. HOW COOL IS THAT!

Re: Real Ale Drinkers or Lagerboys?
It's incredible!
Worried that I seem to be enjoying more and more 'complex' and stronger ales/stouts. Golden Pride being a favourite and Adnams Broadaside being my 'everyday' tipple.

Re: Real Ale Drinkers or Lagerboys?
I don't drink much these days but real ale is far superior to macro lager rubbish. there is such a thing a good quality lager though, had some great czech lager while on holiday a couple of years ago.

Re: Real Ale Drinkers or Lagerboys?
I really struggle with ales below 5% now. I have to go for taste - an ale full of flavour. I do get quite a lot of weaker ones at the club that have an amazing amount of flavour though. Just had a cask of 'Paddler' from a brand new brewery in Bournemouth (Southbourne Brewing Co) and at a weedy 3.6% I was amazed at how much taste had been packed into this little beauty!
Just back from picking my son up from Bournemouth Brewing Co - and the owner/brewer is letting me make an ale

^ yea its nice when a brewer can do that, get a lot of flavour and quality with a low percentage. sign of a great brewer imo.
