Latest Edge has a report on a late-2014 book detailing 2600 game cover designs.
We need to hear lots more about this.

Tell me more. Googling '2600 game cover design book' doesn't return anything useful.NorthWay wrote:a late-2014 book detailing 2600 game cover designs.

How master artists
filled in Atari's blank
With only a 1.19MHz CPU to play
with, a lot of Atari 2600 design had
to be created outside the games
themselves by artists who brought
fantasies boldly to life.
In a new book, enthusiast Tim
Lapetino looks at the history of Atari
game covers, such as 1979's Video
Chess (pictured), starting from the
console's debut in 1977. "The visual
styles are a combination of the
artists' creativity and the inherent
limitations of the console itself", he
says. "Those beautiful illustrations
served as a gateway connecting
the imaginations of gamers to the
simple game graphics."
Video Chess is just one of 136
pieces Atari commissioned. "At
times I've felt like a private eye,"
Lapetino says, "paging through old
magazines, internal Atari
newletters, viewing negatives
through printers' loupes. We've
unearthed a lot about the culture of
the artists and Atari, and we're
excited to preserve these stories."
Lapetino hopes The Art Of Atari:
From Pixels To Paintbrush
will be out for Christmas 2014.

Could the original tune for Archon be of interest? http://spelpappan.se/2014/01/ever-heard ... hon-theme/
Re: The Missing Retro Gamer features
Too late for #127, but anyway:
10 most widely ported arcade games. (You could do a 10 most versions of computer games too.)
10 most unofficially converted arcade games.
10 most sold arcade games.
This is deffo a minefield in getting right, so you might want to add a small disclaimer about "to our best knowledge"
Have some more list based articles:
Companies with most #1 sales charts releases
Programmers/teams with most #1 sales charts releases
Games with the most weeks/months at #1

Only ask as used to see a lot of their adverts in Atari User and would love to know what became of:Adam Caveman (screens looked like mock-up's to myself) and Mumbles Super Spy.
Be nice to get hold of Rainbow Arts, find out why, despite securing rights to 8 bit classics like: Rescue On Fractalus, Koronis Rift, Ballblazer and The Eidolon, they only ever bothered with Ballblazer update on ST/Amiga, in form of Masterblaster.

Re: The Missing Retro Gamer features
What's happened to the Champ/Football Manager article ?
Re: The Missing Retro Gamer features
We have seen many console/machine retrospectives - often with a rather in-depth technical discussion - but how about doing the same for the various arcade systems? There are a good number that were "platforms" in their own right and not just one-offs. Somebody must have made those. Can't you find these and talk to them about the machinery and then list games written for it?
I believe it some times might have relevance to home systems, like the Megadrive is based on a SEGA arcade board? The Atari 7800 has always been said to be doing things "like arcade machines" whatever that is. How have home and arcade hw developed and what inspiration might they have found from each other?

Extend the mini bugs/can't be completed feature this issue into a bigger article.
