Bitmap Brothers - Your Favourite Game
I love having a blast on Speedball 2 and I keep starting up Xenon 2 on the SMS just to listen to the awesome music. What's your favourite game from The Bitmap Brothers and why?
Re: Bitmap Brothers - Your Favourite Game
Gods just about pips Xenon 2 for me. Infact Gods is one of the few remaining retro games I still go out of my way to play on my PSP emus.
edit:
Why? Because it's balls hard, looks great and is balls hard.

Definitely Speedball 2 for me. That game is just amazing - what blows me away is the polish it has for a game that essentially has been made up, it plays flawlessly well, has been designed just perfectly and yet its a imagined game, a sport that doesn't exist. I mean, they still haven't even brought out a decent cricket game for heaven's sake!

Whilst I do enjoy a good game of Speedball 2, my Favourite Bitmap Brothers game is Chaos Engine, one brilliant Co-Op Shooter that always causes arguments over health packs and coins.

I prefer Speedball 1, it feels purer to me. Not so much messing about.

The bitmap Bros had an interesting art style, they'd have a light source usually from the bottom right and a coloured light source coming from the top right (red or blue normally). It's in all there games, how they managed to squeeze all those colours into an Atari ST....
Scott me up beamie!

I think (I think I've always thought, in hindsight) that that 'look' of BB games is the one of the best looks in gaming ...... ever. They look super ace.

Speedball 2 is supremely playable. It looks & sounds awesome, has a good single player mode, and excelled in 2 player.
I have to mention the original Speedball as well. I have very fond memories of this, not only because it's a great game, but a mate of mine would bring the game into computer studies at college, on 3.5" floppy(!). We'd fire it up on a PC and play during classes. The lecturer rarely bothered us and if he did we'd just flick the monitor off, wait until he lost interest, and play on. Fun times. I passed computing too

On the subject of the Speedball games ...... They're rubbish
I just was never a fan.

Re: Bitmap Brothers - Your Favourite Game
Never liked Speedball or it's sequel. The multiplayer was unbalanced to hell.
I love GODs though, the visuals, the atmosphere, the lot. The first Chaos Engine is good too, the sequel, not so much.

I've never played The Chaos Engine. I'd like to get a copy of Gods again though. Always remember it being insanely difficult. Another game with awesome music though

Did anyone play either of the Z (Steel Soldiers) games? I saw the first one on Saturn at a market stall although the disc looked awful so i passed on the opportunity to buy it. Always remember seeing the second game on Game Network when that channel was still about on Sky

I have the Saturn version, it's ok but nothing special. I did a review of it HERE.Black Ridge wrote:Did anyone play either of the Z (Steel Soldiers) games?
