Re: Dr Who - the old series - and other Cult Sci Fi
Well due to health reason i have found that these days i usually need a lie down for half and hour after work beofr ei start house chores etc. Been working my way through various different series over recent months, decided im gonna try start to watching classic Who i dont really remember anything pre Peter Davidson and even thats pretty hazy,
Question is, is it worth starting right back at the beggining, or are the earlier seasons/doctors too hard a slog.

the earlier ones can try your patience because they are so damn long there are 6 8 and even 10 and 12 partersfirebreather wrote:Well due to health reason i have found that these days i usually need a lie down for half and hour after work beofr ei start house chores etc. Been working my way through various different series over recent months, decided im gonna try start to watching classic Who i dont really remember anything pre Peter Davidson and even thats pretty hazy,

and lets not forget that most of the second doctors first 2 seasons have gone bye bye
most of tom bakers stuff is pretty damn good and season 7 ( the first of pertwee's seasons ) is exceptional pity his stories taper off after that
any of throughtons episodes you can get your hand on are worth the effort too but harnells is a bit of a chore to slog through and so is pertwee after season 7
irony would have it that season 7 also has 3 7 episode serials
and 1 4 episode serial
inferno is the stand out of that season followed by spearhead from space
hey wait ! i got a new complaint !

Boy, did I find a bargain? Cash Generator had a ton of Classic Who DVDs for 99p each so picked up 27 (!) for under £27. :3 On close inspection, no scratches or anything on any of the discs, so guess I got a fair few evenings of Who action. XD

That's impressive - you hardly ever see new ones discounted.
Though I did just find a load hidden away amongst the 'L' package menus on my VirginMedia TV menus. 8-parters do take a while to watch, but I see Genesis of the Daleks is on there. I watched City of Death in four parts (which has scenes filmed around Paris) and that was pretty good.

been watching a good random selection on DVD and online (shame Netflix now stopped their Who).
Just finished Death to the Daleks - which was slightly dull - Pertwee not clicking for me still.

I'm a fan of Pertwee's dandy, he's quite manly and up for some fisticuffs when it comes to it despite his frills. I wonder if that had any influence on my Adam Ant fandom?
Oddly, I've only seen a couple of the Troughton episodes so I can't judge him at all.

Re: Dr Who - the old series - and other Cult Sci Fi
ive not seen much of throughton either
just the five doctors and tomb of the cybermen i listend to the macra terror the war games and the power fo the daleks but that was enough for me to completley sell the cosmic hobo to me
and despite what i said about the dandified third doctor his first season is as close as to perfection as you can get

My local charity shop had 4 or 5 DVDs in for £2.50 each last friday, I bought a Tom Baker Dalek one, they also had Hartnel - Azteks and a Peter Davidson Series from memory along with some other Tom Bakers.

to be honest pertwee never came over to me as being nearly 190 cm tall
edit : tom baker is 1 88 cm 6.2
colin baker is 183 cm and 6,0
sylvester mccoy is tiny by comparison he is just 5,5 ( 165 cm )
and matt smith is 5,11 ( 182 cm) scroll down to nileqt's post for a very long list of who actor heights http://www.celebheights.com/s/Matt-Smith-47313.html
and finally a young pertwee

He's certainly the only one to give the impression of a bloke who's thrown a real punch or two in his time, not just acting it.Timothy Lumsden wrote:now i've seen a few, i get the impression that Pertwee was probably quite a tough guy. big too
Seems he had a stint in the Navy, getting off the Hood just in time, and had a specialisation in intelligence and gadgetry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Pertwee

Start with "The Leisure Hive" and finish with "Caves of Androzani". That'll give you a good, well-balanced do
dose in Classic Who.
