Minter makes £1.75 per copy so must need to shift at least 1,000 every month while it's his top game, that's hard work... I wonder how long he'll go on doing it?

Yep its sad to hear, its crazy as people seem to like free games but then spend a fortune on freemium games ! But theyre the types to moan its not 69p when an app comes out and its not freemium !

I buy games instantly theyre released, i'm 40, i dont care if i wait a fortnight the game might be 69p instead of 1.99 ! I'm quite happy for the dev to get more of my money. But way too many people seem to wait for price drops and then moan when nothing new/innovative comes out in the future (as these devs dont seem to be making much).

Loving it, Borderlands clone, tons of missions so far, nice graphics, has IAP's but theyre very lite, theres tons of coins to get so i havent had to buy one IAP. Really loving this, yeah its only March/April but game of the year so far. Lots of people are raving about it on Touch Arcade, great to have borderlands in the palm of your hand

The game apparently includes a humorous dig at Capcom for their shenanigans in ripping off 'Splosion Man with their MaXplosion game.

I hope the new price point works out for LLamasoft as I've always been a fan since my Vic 20 gaming days.

If am being honest, he hasn't used social media that well to publicise his products - mostly his twitter is about feeding animals for example and he doesn't interact with his followers - maybe he need a separate feed for his games? The potential is there and the games are good, but I think he maybe needs to 'play the game' a bit better.

Well this came out last night, very surprised as i think its really good. Never really played Borderlands at all but this is like the iOS equivalent. Bit of an action RPG game, you accept missions, go off and with a first person view you have to kill x number of baddies or pick up certain packages.

You then get your reward, pay for extra guns, level up and use other skills etc.

For the price i think its excellent, really enjoying it

Yep, it's excellent. The fact it's so cheap makes it double excellent. It does borrow heavily from Borderlands but that's no bad thing for me. Great shout.

This is the old old game before it went to an FPS. This is the old version when it was an action platformer, well worth picking up, controls are good, old skool graphics, takes me back to the early 90's with this one

(That was in response to my point about the App Store never featuring his games, even in retro round-ups.) The new Android Gridrunner page also points at a change of direction for Llamasoft. Back to bigger projects carries with it more risk, but then it looks like Minter hasn't fared that well on iOS, which is a crying shame. Gridrunner in particular at 69p is a steal (frankly, if anyone who owns an iPhone and iPad on this forum hasn't bought a copy, you should be bloody ashamed of yourself), and even on my insanely packed iPhone, I've still got almost all the Llamasoft titles installed.

I always love it when an indie gets an unexpected yet deserved hit. Zach Gage had been doing wonderful iOS titles (a highlight being the fantastic Halcyon for iPad) but getting nowhere, resigning himself to being a struggling New York artist. And then: SpellTower. BOOM! Suddenly, he's in that wonderful position of being able to think, work and experiment. I just wish Jeff had had the same experience—even a couple of hundred thousand sales for a Gridunner or a relatively piffling 50,000 for Goatup 2 could have done the job. But the former remains brutally ignored, even by shooter fans and the latter has barely gotten any coverage, although Edge at least gave it an 8. (Nothing last time I checked on any of the big iOS gaming sites though.)

Even on the YakYak forum, someone was moaning about the price of Goatup 2, saying it wasn't an impulse purchase. I do sympathise if people genuinely can't afford that, but for most people it's just the comparison with unsustainable pricing.

The single most dominant factor for why I bought an iPhone in the first place was the news that Llamasoft were to release new retro-style games on iOS.

That's really sad news about Jeff. We just reviewed GoatUp2 and given it 90 odd% It's a fantastic game that's well suited to iOS. Amazed his stuff isn't doing better than it is

It's worth noting that Llamasoft hasn't stated online that it's no longer going to do any iOS games, but it looks like—for the near future—it won't be working iOS-first. Instead, the Android page states larger PC/Mac projects that might then end up on mobile. Given the nature of the industry right now, that's got to be a risk, but then if they're not making enough money, it's worth shaking things up and seeing what happens.

Right now, Game Center's showing under a thousand Goatup 2 players. Goatup looks the most popular title, at around 5.5k. Staggeringly, Gridrunner only has a smidge under 4k, which is depressing. These don't equate directly to sales, of course, because deletion of a game can take with it GC details, but it showcases Minter's not been able to crack the App Store with a full-on hit.

The App Store curators really don't help, of course. Devs can really be helped with those round-ups in the App Store, but, as far as I recall, only Super Ox Wars ever made one of those lists, including ones about retro games. There's a new one on the UK store now, grouping a bunch of platform games. No Goatup 2 but a slew of one-thumb games that don't even belong in the selection. Annoying, to say the least.
