Now THAT's shocking!Liamh1982 wrote:And The Jungle Book's STILL waiting for its TV premiere! Not even the Disney Channel's got round to it yet.
We joined a few, can't remember where two of them were (one of them we called "the outdoors indoors shop" because it had brick walls on the inside - we'd always get the same Mickey Mouse tape out from there). The "main" one we stuck with over the years was called Pick-A-Flick, who we stayed loyal to right up until they closed down. Now it's an opticians.
The main room (with the counter) was new releases, games, horror and Manga films, and then a side-room had all the comedy, kids stuff and so on. Over the years the horror would gradually move into the side-room as the main room also became an off-license.
Seemed like we'd always get the same tapes out over and over, because they were so good! Freaked, Monster Squad and the Beetlejuice cartoons mostly, I think. And when they cleared the stock, I ended up owning most of the things that we rented out most - that Beetlejuice tape, it's mine now! And my copies of Decap Attack, Sonic Spinball, Super Fantasy Zone, Global Gladiators, Chuck Rock and Bubsy are all the ones that we'd rent out all the time. With hindsight, we really should've bought their copy of Mega Man: The Wily Wars off them when they were clearing out their Sega stuff, ah well.
Always loads of free posters to take home from there, as well as the freebie magazine (their one was called "See It First On Video"). We even rented out a Dreamcast from them when it was first out, and the first DVD I ever saw came from them too (Wild Wild West).
Really miss that place (still remember the membership number too - 6103). When it was a real treat to see a film rather than just buying a DVD for less than £1 off Amazon.
