Re: The Missing Retro Gamer features
I would genuinely enjoy an article on the 10 worst regarded games of all time, it would be entertaining and probably spark quite a debate.

I love obscure systems and I own a CD-i myself with most of the games. The system has a lot of crap but it was great discovering all the hidden gems, if you follow the link in my sig you will find a load of CD-i mini reviews I wrote.
Re: The Missing Retro Gamer features
what about censorship in the 80s cover refrence to computers and films maybe or erotic video games, especially the ones from Japan would make for some great reading or one on Public domain software , this was huge in the 90's for both Atari St and Amiga and as far as i know has never been cover, could allow for a bit of demo sceneage in there on the sly
from the demo makers turned game makers, one that hasn't be done before is old games being remade for new devices like IOS & android sorta like a VS of old vs new eg. battle Squardron on the amiga, is now on the Ipad etc.. and break up the flaws between both version that sort of thing..

Great idea, what about an Atari Jag CD article. Exploring all the ins an outs. The games and the continued Homebrew.
You could help with that I believe The Laird?
Re: The Missing Retro Gamer features
Apart from all the suggestions I have posted in "Q+A" I'd like to repeat a theme:
Invasion of the Nordics: The Danes rocked the C= 64 and Amiga from early on, the Swedes followed up later on both machines, and the Finns came in at a solid 3rd place on the Amiga. And why didn't Norway get anywhere (apart from Fuzzball)?
S0DAN is even on the net somewhere, but perhaps he has turned you down already?

Re: The Missing Retro Gamer features
Came up with another oldie I'd really like to see:
A family tree of hw designs: There are a good number of people who have worked on more than one system.
2600 - A8 - Amiga - Handy - 3DO (not a straight line, but anyway)
VIC-20 - C= 64 (PET?)
Konix - Jaguar (more?)
Enterprise... something?
SInclair Amiga-beater (wossname again?)
Panther???
Others fill in if you have ideas.

Re: The Missing Retro Gamer features
Have there ever been any biggish features on puzzle games across any/all formats? (I've got all issues of RG but can't quite recall seeing any features)
Re: The Missing Retro Gamer features
The big article I'm waiting for would be "The Complete Sega History (how Mr. Stolar ruined everything)"
Seriously though. a complete, in-depth guide to the origins and eventual massive downsizing of the Big S would be great.

A feature on Gizmondo covering,
* the main elements of the company's controversial existence
* the commercially released games
* the unreleased commercial games
* the console's multimedia capabilities including GPS Sat Nav, Smart Ads and Augmented Reality - something Nintendo have more recently copied on 3DS
* the home brew scene and how to update the system's firmware so to take advantage of certain software
* the much discussed but never released, afaik, 'Gizmondo 2'

... like the controversy surrounding the raunchy box art of 'Barbarian: The Ultimate Warrior'. Having a scantily clad Maria Whittaker (and her ample assets) on display was just too much for Boots to handle (pardon the punGreyfox wrote:what about censorship in the 80s cover refrence to computers and films maybe or erotic video games, especially the ones from Japan would make for some great reading or one on Public domain software , this was huge in the 90's for both Atari St and Amiga and as far as i know has never been cover.

This scan doesn't do the artwork justice, but you get the idea.

I can see rich pickings for this censorship article.

Anyway, other articles I would like to see (if they haven't already been covered) are:
- The most bugged games ever. You know, examples of truely wretched programming and embarrassing oversights by developers that make them hang their heads in shame!!! May I nominate the Atari ST version of 'Batman The Movie' (Ocean). This was initially released with a serious bug on the Gotham City Cathedral level that made completing the game near impossible. Can you get more incompetant that respawning the main character outwith the gameplay area after losing a life!!!!...REBOOT <Doh!>. Oh and this cost £20 on release. Someone dropped the ball big time!

. - I'd also like to see an exploration of piracy in the 16-bit software era (Atari ST & Amiga). Covering legendary (& infamous) cracking groups such as Automation, Medway Boys, Pompey Pirates etc etc. The risks they took?... their motivation to do so?... the reason they quit?... The 'cat and mouse' game they were in with developers (beat one copy protection system, and the developer creates another)... the hidden notes left by developers in their code for crackers to read... the obscure software that turned up on disks but shouldn't (e.g. the pre-release version of the seminal game Xenon). Throw in some perspectives from the other side - developers memories, protection specialists (Rob Northern!), FAST (Federation Against Software Theft) and you'd have quite a tasty article IMHO!

I personally wouldn't wish to see such scum receive any attention whatsoever in Retro Gamer.fujiHunter wrote:[*]I'd also like to see an exploration of piracy in the 16-bit software era (Atari ST & Amiga). Re: The Missing Retro Gamer features
I think it could be part of the industry. They are hardly scum for doing a bit of piracy as harmful as it can be to the industry. It was part of the industry back then and could make for a very interesting read if written correctly. Could find out why they did it, was it for the cheap games or was it for the buzz of cracking new titles?

A "bit" of piracy? Do you have any idea on what scale these game crackers had their illegal warez distributed back in the day?
'... a tsunami of piracy', more like.

All the more reason for a retrospective covering it then, I think.
I think your all missing the elephant in the room however: How Alan Sugar ruled the world with a CPC464, a greenscreen and a moody copy of Super Swiv that would only load ocassionally must ber published forthwith!
