Best 2d Arcade Adventure Platformers?
Inspired by this issues Citadel feature, a game I have never played but looks fun, I was wondering if people could recommend some really good 2d platformer adventures i.e. many rooms, keys, items etc
Games like:
Rick Dangerous,
Montezuma's Revenge,
Monty on The Run
Spelunky 2
Jill of the Jungle
Switchblade
Games with ladders and traps and stuff, not basic one-screen platformers like Manic Miner, nor well known games like Flashback / castlevania etc
Any format is cool as I would be playing them through an emulator... PC games are good too, freeware or remakes of old games.. and DOS games like Inner Worlds (worth a try if you havent heard of it). http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... diYDKJVE#!
Thanks

Another World and Flashback are two of the best ever made. Blackthorne is pretty good too. Abuse probably swings too far into the "arcade" zone, but is still good fun and free (I think)?

I'd recommend Shamus : Case II on the A8 (the C64 version was pretty poor), a weird combination of platform, shoot-em-up and breakout but huge fun:

The Wally games are good. Everyone's A Wally, Three Weeks In Paradise etc. Lots of rooms and items with puzzles to solve.
Sceptre Of Bagdad is the same sort of thing too. I played these on the spectrum. The emphasis is on the puzzles and exploring rather than the platforming though.

If it's slower than me, dumber than me and it tastes good ... tough titty.

some of the old turbografx platformers had great exploration elements, cant remember their names, but I think the studios name was Invisage studios or something

Finders Keepers - Spectrum
The other magic knight games didn't have so muchof a platform element to them but worth loking at too

Gods by the Bitmap Brothers is pretty decent.
My favourite however, is First Samurai! Great stuff from Vivid Image! "Oh no, my sword!"

Can I be a bit more specific.. Gods, and black tiger are good games but not really what I meant..
I meant a simple look like auf weidersehen monty or citadel.. that kind of thing

I'd say Sorcery + on the Amstard
Exile the Commodore 64 version is good heard the BBC Version is supposed to be better
Robo Knight Commodore 16

Exile I always trying to like but it was so confusing I could never get anywhere.
the other two you mention look interesting (based on youtube vids) and are much more in line with what I had in mind in this thread. Keep em coming! any DOS / 16-bit ones in this style?
Re: Best 2d Arcade Adventure Platformers?
I'm not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for but Wardner (Arcade/MD) is a nice little game, nice level of challenge too.

Barbarian probably deserves a mention. Someone needs to remake that game with decent controls.
