I have a 16gig iPad 1 and don't feel the need to upgrade yet.

It's perfectly fine for surfing the net and streaming video.

I don't think you understand that 2 is a larger number than 3.

Sorry mate, multi-tasking here, 2 is a larger number than 3? straight over my head...

I have no need of higher res.screen or what ever bells n whistles the latest iPad offers, so as said, not looking to upgrade my existing model.

The extra resolution just adds more dots per inch (DPI) for a finer image.

There's no resolution benefits, which I think is dumb personally.

I'm assuming this and a more powerful GPU (but same? CPU) are what Apple consider are the 'key' features of latest model?.

So..better looking photo's etc, games etc...but anything really standout?.

I would have said i'd have thought consumer interest in 'minor' upgrades each model must soon start to wane, but iPad 3, fatest seller yet?.

Apple consumers tend to be subject to hype.

The higher resolution is also the reason behind overheating problems in some units. Lack of ventilation was a design overlook from Apple.

Good job Apple.

I don't think specs will wane at all with tablets, things have only just been started recently.

Tablets are going to overtake desktops in popularity soon, the desktop being phased out I imagine.

Saddening really.

Looking in HMV on Saturday some of the other makes of Tablet makes are coming down quite a bit. Are any of these worth considering seeing as they retail with discounts ranging betwenn £100 - £200??

The wife's interested in getting an Android tablet.

She's got a Samsumg Galaxy phone that she loves & I think is basically after something similar with a bigger screen.

She'll (probably) mostly be using it for Facebook & playing shovelware type farming games, Twitter and general news feeds and probably also as a Kindle.

Budget of (very) approx £200.

Any decent recommendations or decent review/comparison type websites?

The Google Nexus 7 is your best option, £160 for the 8 Gb, £200 for the 16 Gb, running the latest version of android and rave reviews:

Thanks, that looks ideal!

Edit: oh looks like it's pretty much out of stock EVERYWHERE!

Her birthday's in a month, hopefully they'll be back in stock somewhere by then. :D

You might want to bear in mind that the Nexus 7 has no SD card slot, so that 8GB isn't at all expandable. It shouldn't be a problem if it's just getting used for browsing and streaming, but that'd go in next to no time if you start putting HD movies on it.
