I had a bit of a problem with them as well during the main event on Saturday - thought it was massively disorganised. My son spent 2 hours after signing up for the FIFA tourney (and being told it started in 10 minutes) to actually play a game before he lost patience. Total lack of communication; we kept having to ask them what was going on. I tweeted about it, and got a reply back from one of them. I've asked him for his email address so I can go in to great detail about how I was annoyed...
I think I saw your tweet on the big wall, did it say something like "sort it out for tomorrow" at the end?

Hi folks - just a quick message here to you guys on the RetroGamer forum (I know you form a large part of the event), to say that this year's Replay show was simply superb and all of us at Turnarcades loved every minute. I personally have very few quibbles and it was great to be part of it. I would like to give a full review here if someone can tell me an appropriate place to post it (if not here) but right now I'm just going over some of our pictures and business related to the event so will sort that out later.

Firstly, I'm hoping nobody minds but I'm compiling a list of links to facebook albums, website reports and youtube videos related to the event together, as I'd like to post it in a few places online (including here) so everyone can see as much of the show footage and thoughts as possible and reference photos and stuff easier. A few people forgot cameras, wanted to get more footage or simply missed many aspects of the show for various reasons and I know guys like Chris Wilkins want to be able to reference this kind of stuff on the new Replay Gamer site for all to see - it sure would be good to have a single archive of such a big show like this. If you have anything you've posted online like an album, a blog, a video or just a forum entry, please post it here to help me compile the list - the more the merrier! Here's what I've dug up so far this morning:

FACEBOOK ALBUMS; (obviously may only be viewable to friends of)

DAN GILGRASS - http://www.facebook.com/#!/media/set/?s ... 250&type=1

MAX HALL - http://www.facebook.com/tmcrole#!/media ... 277&type=3

YOUTUBE VIDEOS; (directly showing or referencing Replay show or exhibits)

markvergeer (day 1 retrospective) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=8B2kot20G8I

That's all I've got so far and I haven't even uploaded our stuff yet, but I'm sure there'll be tons more than last year. Wouldn't it be great if these could be compiled into a nice 'official' video for reference? I'm happy for anyone to use the stuff we got if needs be.

Hey all,

Finally joined after much hassle from homgran!

I had a great time this year, and the 400 mile round trip was definitely worth it. We were only there on the Sunday last year but I thought this year was much better. I particularly enjoyed the Sonic 1 Boss Attack challenge that Retro Collect were running. I'm glad to say I (eventually) managed to complete it, but in a pitiful time compared to the winner (me: 5"25'; winner: 3"25').

The aftershow party was great, and it gave me a chance to catch up with some old and new friends.

Well done all for a fantastic event, and I think it's safe to say that we will be coming along next year as well. :D

For me it was all about meeting Jason/TMR, Kenz, Frank Gasking & Sean Connolly IN REAL LIFE in the hombrew area. Oh, and of course Mr Minter and his partner, who were only too keen to demonstrate Llamasoft's new iPad releases (which will at some stage be coming to PC as well apparently).

There were some amazing bits of kit on display (I fell in love with the ultra cute SX64 in the Amibay area), but I concur that the choice of games on the actual Replay machines was a bit weaker than I'd hoped for. I mean, did we really need three vectrex machines all with Minestorm on them? Would have been nice to see carts swapped over on a regular basis to add some variety. As it was, I had a bag full of my own homebrew and bootlegged super-rare famicom games, so myself and a mate sat down for a blast of Recca 92, Titan Warriors, Blade Buster and Crisis Force on the Famicom system (which was previously running Star Wars). We also managed to show off a few of the new unreleased RGCD games on a borrowed C64, including C64anabalt and Fairy Well.

The coin-ops were also really cool - I loved the experience of playing Stargate; probably one of the most complicated control systems I've experienced on an arcade machine.

I saw Darran a few times, but didn't approach him as he seemed super busy documenting everything on a digital camera, narrating as he went - including recording "the latest issue of Retro Gamer" at the Atic Bug stall, which made me chuckle. ;) Bumped into Woody Cool on Saturday, but didn't know any of the other forum regulars - I guess I've been away for too long. And we entered the Hilton halfway through the after-show game quiz, so we missed the chance to get involved and meet people there too! :/

Anyway, I've uploaded 33 photos to my facebook account, so people I know can check them there I guess :)

Not sure if I'll come to another large expo like this again (unless it's as an RGCD stall to showcase modern retro-style indie games - something that was sorely missing from this event IMO). I much prefered the smaller ones I went to in the past as they had more of a community vibe about them, so I think from now on I'll concentrate more on attending demo parties and homebrew coding events. However, the Replay team did a great job pulling off a huge expo like this, and I really wish them the best of luck in future!

Unfortunately several systems destined for that area were either not supplied or non-functional so in the end it was a case of just put something there rather than have an empty table. There were also issues locating games for some of the consoles hence the lack of swap over. I'm sure this will be a common criticism and will be addressed for future events...

From a selfish point of view I really liked this. Me & two of my mates were having a mini tourney on these so it was cool that we were able to play this great little score attack game simultaneously rather than turn based. :D

That's the one. In hindsight, I probably wouldn't have put something up so public, but I was just incredibly frustrated at it when the problems could have been easily avoided. I'm not "furious" about it by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm still writing an email to them to explain my thoughts in detail. I'm quite sure I'm being reasonable.

Just got back to Manchester after a quick bit of derrigging this morning. Hoped to do it all last night but the scissor lift ran out of electricity...
It all seemed to go well. Highlights were Projector Games which seemed to be really popular again this year and also the guys who were dancing at the SID 80s gig
Win: bought a Fignition :D
Lose: still not plucked up the courage to speak to Jeff Minter :(

Cheers to all involved. Especially my bro, Alex (Who also kept the Rock Band marathon going for the most part)

 thanks man, it was a pleasure. The radio comms were a masterstroke that helped.
You did an awesome job yourself on the PA. Chucking gear into the crowd like a rockstar was inspired

Anyway, yes - positives... The ProjectorGames setup was awesome again and was definitely my favourite. Had some proper heart thumping moments on the horizontal driving game thing (can't remember the name) with loads of people getting ridiculously excited about it. The SpecialEffects stand was very interesting too. Sounds cliche, but it's amazing what you take for granted...

It also didn't help that I took my name badge off in the morning and then forgot to put it back on again. Was too busy running around to stop and be social

There's always next year :D

Yeah shame about the badges. Recognised a fair few who i see at most retro shows but would have been good to meet more RG'ers. Everytime i passed the main entrance i saw lots of unused RG badges sat there unclaimed.

Its a catch 22, its great how huge the event is now but trying to meet fellow forumites can be tricky without the badges

Great event though

st got back to Leeds (and straight to work) and just wanted to say that Replay was amazing! Never been to anything like it before and i was blown away. Everyone i met from the forums and people in general were all really friendly, great atmosphere knowing that you can just start a conversation with anyone! In partucular, the retrocollect guys were all so nice, great putting faces to name.

I was proud to be wearing a retrocollect t-shirt and helping out and would gladly do it again whenever needed. Looking forward to seeing the group photos (especially the silly faces ones )

bagged myself a Jap complete Samba De Amigo with maracas from console passion (thanks for the discount too ) made in wario jap and also the booby prize of Alex Higgins Cue Ball Tabletop game

Highlight for me was winning the waggleomania competition though, dont think that anyone i know will ever get tired of ribbing me about my joystick waggling skills

soo much more to write about but have to get back to work

That will never get old. :) Glad you enjoyed it buddy, hope you liked the prize. I didn't see that coming, it was a nice touch from the Team17 guys.

Surprisingly, yes it did.
The way people tended to leave the table flushed and slightly out of breath probably only caused further confusion.

That's interesting - what sort of problem did you have with them?

well they came in late and sat at our table and the the large guy with the sideburns starts ripping into one of the guys mimicking his accent and calling us geeks coz we was tring to get on with quiz and spemt the whole quiz slating us , then him and his boyfreinds decided to deface the team we were marking quizsheet with dicks. left a sour taste as they basically had a issue with people that were in for retrogaming which i felt was a bit rich considering how much they were prob making.

The wagglo-o-mania was brilliant! When the guy listing all the comps said there was no prize yet for it - I pointed him in the direction of the Team 17 stand as they had already given me a pile of t-shirts! The origional artwork was excellent and a very generous donation from them :D
As for meinvein winning it..........

As I said on the day - obviously the biggest w@nker at the show :D
The meinvein was tugged at with such speed

Got to ask again - and maybe meinvein has an idea? Did you share with Real Retro? If so, was it him that was very unwell Sunday afternoon?
