Second part of Where Games Go To Sleep is now up on Gamasutra. In part two I profile how developers and publishers are vulnerable to natural disasters (Konami losing material in the Kobe earthquake in particular). Museums and academic archives including the NVA, ICHEG, Stanford, UT Video Game Archive are also interviewed and discuss how they're preserving the games we play. I even briefly discuss how I failed in gathering interest in opening a game museum in Japan, and how Japanese government politics would later play a role in cancelling a combined manga, anime and game museum.

Third and final part with comments from developer and publishers will be up in two weeks (before the GDC).

I have completely revamped Norwich Retro Gaming now, I think it is much better than it was but I guess the real test is what everyone else thinks....

Well all my past and future Commodore 16/+4 articles have been and will be from now on condensed into one index page now as it became a pain to search the entire site for them, the link is in my signature below.
I always add my reviews there too as well as here, but on my page I also give them ratings. Also a link to my youtube longplay page, my magazine projects and a few other stuff

Final part of my game preservation article is up on Gamasutra:
[In this, the final installment of Where Games Go To Sleep, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony, and other leading video game companies respond to a video game preservation questionnaire, disclosing how they're saving their video game history. Developers and publishers disclose what assets they've lost, and how, in certain instances, have rescued and preserved the building blocks of their games before it was too late.]
Link: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/6 ... _game_.php
I was happy to also get answers from the owners of the Acclaim library, Irem, Taito, Sega, Namco Bandai, Intellivision, Capcom, Digital Leisure, Gearbox Irem, Jaleco, and Mitchell Corporation (nice enough to give me permission to post a pic of a Visco PCB they used to distribute - taken during an office visit to Tokyo last year).
I'm looking for more industry developers and publishers to come forward and share how they're preserving their games for the future - so please spread the word. Enjoy!

Re: Great Retro-gaming websites - the sticky thread!
That was an excellent series of articles, John. I hope you hear from more companies in the future so you can do a follow up
My site is Retro Gaming Australia. Shameless self promotion and all that jazz. Originally I started the site with a friend because we were dissatisfied with the lack of a large scale retro community in Australia. He lost interest after about a week when it wasn't an instant success, but I've kept the site going since. The community aspect of the site never really worked out, so for the last year I've shifted focus onto finding and preserving various aspects of the gaming experience and gaming history in Australia. Still do a round-up of interesting retro articles on an irregular basis.

I've finally revamped my site into version 3... larger graphics and less garbage makes for a better time. Plus the user interface for article submissions works a bit cleaner.

Re: Great Retro-gaming websites - the sticky thread!
Finally, now I've got the time, decided to resurect my old website Super Famicom Central
I started it in 1999 as there was sod all english language stuff out there for the SFC and it ran quite healthily until around 2003-4, but things got busy (Life, work, marriage etc) and it died off a slow death and by 2007-8 pretty much ground to a halt.
I've now had the desire and energy to start it up again (even after all this time there is still a HUGE shartage of good Snes, never mind sfc sites around!)
Anyway...........still got a lot to add (reviews, articles etc) but the basic layout is up and everything seems to be working well.
I know it's not something that will appeal to all (maybe only has a small base of interest?)................but here is the link for anyone that does want to have a look

Cheers

Hey all,
Just like to throw my site into the ring - http://mygurumeditation.wordpress.com
It's a little bit of everything, personal collecting stories, tips & tricks, reviews, associated guff. I'm shying away from a particular platform, because I find all of it - from the 2600jr to the Sega Saturn - equally interesting, fun and cherished. Please enjoy, and if you have your own retro site or blog and you'd like to exchange links I'd be more than happy! Community spirit and all.....
