Hydorah - PC indie shmup (free)
Just a heads up to people who might be interested -
Hydorah is a free indie shmup in the vein of Gradius and boasts excellent gameplay, graphics and music. It has such a high level of polish, even includes manual/cover/poster etc! Very old-school gameplay. Don't sleep on this one! Hopefully RG has/will cover it?

Not my sort of shmup, but looks pretty good for an indie game.

Looks pretty cool. Doesn't look that hard from the video though.

There'll be a news article in issue 80 but it arrived too late to be properly played for review so that'll be held back until 81.oli_lar wrote:Hopefully RG has/will cover it?

Believe me, it is! To be fair whenever I watch gradius playthroughs back, even III, I think 'that looks easy. Of course it never actually is!GunstarHero wrote:Looks pretty cool. Doesn't look that hard from the video though.
There are multiple paths through, the upper ones being the hardest. You do get limited save points though.
Good that its being reviewed TMR, look forward to reading it.

Hydorah is... an astounding achievement.
It's the "Late 80s horizontal shmup remake" equivalent of Spelunky or Cave Story.
It's. That. Good.
The sheer level of imagination and professionalism in the graphics/music/enemies/levels is fantastic.
If you enjoyed Gradius/Salamander/R-type/X-Multiply... it's a must-download.

Comparable to Cave Story? SoldMr_Staypuft wrote:Hydorah is... an astounding achievement.

^ I'm with you there, Cave Story is fantastic!
I downloaded this as it sounds good but I get some really crunchy sound in Win 7 for some reason. Is there anything that can be done to sort it out?
Thanks

It doesn't even load for me. After I've installed it, it says it's loading, but then comes up with an error, then crashes back to the desktop

I don't seem to be getting any sound problems in win 7, nothing that's noticeable anyway.
Splink!

Yeah I don't mean something minor I mean a total crunch fest. I can't even make out the title screen music. Something is definitely not right my end, that's a bit strange.
