Re: Famous People from your Home Town
To be truthful his link is slightly dubious (lived here for a short time, possibly, family lived here etc etc)...but his nephews did work at the same store as me. So i'm taking the Darth Vader link and running with it

Re: Famous People from your Home Town
I forgot my most important one... Tyla lead singer of the Dogs D'amour, he even went to my school
They really should have been massive but I guess a bit of fame and too much alcohol don't mix, hard to believe but at one point The Black Crowes were a support act for them..

Re: Famous People from your Home Town
One of Oldham's most famous nearly residents was Sir Winston Churchill, who failed to become the Conservative MP in a 1899 by-election (I wonder how history would have been different had he won).
Actual famous Roughyeds are:
Michael Atherton - cricketer.
Bernard Cribbins - Wombles bloke.
Agyness Deyn - skinny bird.
Michelle Marsh - not a skinny bird.
Christopher Biggins - fat bloke.
David Platt - professional ball kicker.
Eric Sykes - very funny bloke.
But the pinnacle of Oldham born godlike status is shared between Professor Brian Cox and Cannon & Ball.

Former strong man and budgie collector Geoff Capes. At least, he used to live there.
That's about it.
That's about it.

Considering how small the place is, then it ain't done too badly... James Whale, Michaela Strachen and Warwick Davis are three I definitely know, might be more... if you stretch across to Epsom as well, then the list really gets longer...

Christian Bale, Rhys Ifans, and Gruff from the super furry animals....wow, check that interstella crew. Although Christian Bale really down plays he was from Pembrokeshire, I think he's too busy beating up his sister, and shouting at sound men

Re: Famous People from your Home Town
Oh, I almost forgot The Nosebleeds. Punk supergroup in reverse.
Punk band formed in Wythenshawe, Manchester, England in 1976 under the name of Wild Ram. Changed their name to Ed Banger And The Nosebleeds in early 1977 with the following line-up: Edmund 'Ed Banger' Garrity (vocals), Vincent 'Vini' Reilly (guitar), Phillip 'Toby' Tomanov (drums), and Pete Crooks (bass).
In late 1977 Billy Duffy replaced Vini Reilly and Morrissey replaced Ed Banger and subsequently they shortened the group's name to The Nosebleeeds.
Ed Banger ended up in a later incarnation of Slaughter and The Dog.
Vini Reilly formed The Durutti Column.
Pete Crooks and Toby Toman continued on as The Nosebleeds.
Morrissey formed the Smiths
Duffy formed The Cult.
