No but the fact that the game was complety different and the original playable characters are not there make it a spin-off rather than a sequal...
1-0 to me..
There are plenty of sequels that play differently to their prequels. Also, Sensi considered Wizkid the official sequel to Wizball, so that's good enough for me.

As for my favourite game that never got a sequel, Stunt Car Racer gets the nod.

I could see this starting a new argument..
Is a game a sequel because it is truly the next reincarnation and feels like it really is a part of a series or, is it a sequel because the person who is selling it to us tell us it is.
I.e. "that sold well, lets call this the follow up"...?

Just a thought....

Surely it is a sequel if it continues the theme (and usually characters) from the last one.

I'm with Craig on the Wizkid thing though.

Principles of Modern Game Development Lesson 1 reads "Give your character guns to shoot things with".

I'm a bit confused. Are you allowed to nominate games that are sequels? Can I then say that Resident Evil 4 is the best game never to receive a sequel? It's a sequel itself, and RE 5 is in the pipeline, but still there has - as of yet - not been a sequel to it...

Do you follow my intricate logic?

While not retro, Total Annihilation was a ground breaking game that I would have loved to see a sequel of that was set in the same universe.

I'd have eaten my own foot to get a sequel to Unirally for the SNES - it wouldn't have needed any innovation because it was pure gameplay in the first place - just a load more tracks and a four player mode.

How can wizkid be the sequel to Wizball!!! Anyone how has played the game knows Wizkid bares no relation to Wizball!

I think someone should start a poll

Mole Mania. One of the few gems Shigeru Miyamoto designed that many haven't noticed during the Super Game Boy generation. It's an action maze puzzler type of game featuring a mole who had to travel underground and over to solve puzzles. A sequel could be implemented well with the DS screens.

I know I said Burning Rangers already, but Axelay 2 would have been worth a play or 2 I reckon. Even though it's kind of the spiritual successor to Salamander, it still features one of the coolest ship designs as well some crazy weaponry. Sequal please! Thanks Konami.

Alright then...no-one said NiGHTS as their first choice :P

Got to admit though, Burning Rangers comes close to rivalling it. Cracking looks considering the Saturn 'doesnt do 3D'.
