Recommend me some Xbox 360 driving games.

Post by Doddsy » Mon Apr 27, 2009 1:36 pm

I just bought a steering wheel for my Xbox 360 and I want to play some driving games. Any good ones worth taking for spin?

The only one I can recommend you is OutRun Online :D I don't have it myself but I've got OutRun 2006 Coast 2 Coast (Xbox) and it looks gorgeous, so it should be outstanding with the improved HD graphics.

Test Drive Unlimited - It looks a little dated now (not that that will bother any retro gamer!) , but the island is HUGE!! I mean, you have never seen this amount of road in a game EVER! You get many different challenges such as races, time trials, taxi runs (beat the time limit), car delivery missions (try not to damage it) etc. The really impressive thing I find is that it is constantly online. If you drive around in your game going from objective to objective you can find other online players driving round the city with you. If you fancy racing someone flash your headlights and they'll choose the route from the point you challenged them. If you join an offline objective the online players disappear until the end. Good stuff!

The island offers nice variation and there's loads to keep you coming back. It's got plenty of cars and bikes too. It's as cheap as chips as well. You can't go wrong!

IMO Grid is the best feeling and looking game. Bit of a chance you'll get a bit bored with it playing yourself as all there is to do in your career is race but I recommend it anyway.

I'd say PGR 3, though PGR 4 has more courses, cars, added bikes and weather effects, I still think 3 is supierior, better soundtrack too.

How do you find the steering wheel? I did'nt get along with mine, I felt the feedback was too weak and I really struggled to control cars on any game, it was'nt responsive enough.

Flatout UC (one of the most underrated games ever), PGR 4, Race Pro, Test Drive Unlimited (which seems to be having a revival lately), Dirt (although the sterring wheel on Dirt would probably break your hands) and Grid. All superb games, all relatively cheap now.

I would say PGR4 but I've been playing it quite a lot lately.... there's way too many dodge the cones courses to be enjoyable, I just get pissed off with em and end up hitting every cone on there, but when it comes to actual racing it's very good.

For more serious racing Forza 2, loads of cars, tracks and plenty of challenge, and like Gran Turismo you can buy cars, mod them and there are race limitations eg: 4WD only races, FWD only races, etc.. pretty enjoyable, but it's more a serious racer than arcade

Race Driver Grid... I'm still a little undecided, the road and track races are ToCA at it's best, but why on earth did they have to go Need For Speed and have drift races???

For all out arcade racing, Burnout Pardise, it's fast, loud, and there's loads to see and do

Edit: Another thing that annoys me on PGR4 is the hot lap races, rolling start... yeah fair enough, but why the f**k do they have to have massive text all over the screen blocking your view that doesn't fade out until you've hit the barriers on the first corner!!??

I thought the same before playing it - I love all previous Codies racing games, but to put drifting events in seemed to be dumbing the game down.

Thing is, I thought the drifting events were bloody brilliant! Handled superbly and was great fun. I ended up playing a freestyle drift 10 times last night on the PC because I wanted to beat every difficulty. Great fun.

It is impressively good on the 360, tight controls and incredible graphics. I'd completed it by the time I got the PC version. All i can say is unbelievable. The graphics are so incredibly smooth. It's a shame there doesn't seem to be much online activity though (at least from what i've seen)

I like Colin McRae DiRT, Flatout Ultimate Carnage, Ridge Racer 6, Sega Rally & Test Drive Unlimited

I like arcade'ish games more than those sim games though.

LOL

Glad someone else noticed this!

I only got my 360 nlast week, and got PGR4 with it, and although it has it's faults, I've been hammering it since then.
Fantastic graphics, loads cars and tracks, nice physics, good online racing...
BAD points - fcking 'cone-dodging' events (mentioned above), and hot laps, I would rather do battle with other cars on the track any day.
Well I'll be online tonight, add 'amcmenamin' to your mtes list if you fancy a blast later.
I fully intend to pick up GRID soon, it looks aaaace.
