I despise all first person shooters. They have always seemed mindless and pointless to me.
Re: From the forum question for issue 64
I was so tempted to pick Duke or Blood - both are great fun and have some inventive weapons - Trip mines? Flare gun? Yes please
What was the name of another game with a similer style and used the same engine? Shadow Warrior? That was good fun too "ah ha the sticky bomb"

Has to be the original Unreal Tournament for me, the fact that you can run around killing people, get killed, respawn and get straight back into the killing again really appeals to me. I don't think any other version has bettered the original though.
Splink!

ah the "blood" games, that brings back a few memories. great games, very funny too. I remember in the second, upon entering a block of flats you could click on the intercom system and your character said "I'm here to kill everyone" in a gruff voice, and a lady in a californian accent says "oh hi kewl come on up" and buzzes you in!
well it made me laugh anyway.

Great game , and great storyline. The first level in particular was awesomely epic. Shame they went solely multiplayer after that

I have to admit It was an Amazing technical achievement to get quake 2 on the PSX..... so many hours lost in its 4 player ability!!!
all that from a 33mhz 4MB machine (of wich 512kb was ROM!!!) clearly awesome programming to squeeze a 4 player game of Quake2 outa that little grey box!!!

I see where you are coming from, but TimeSplitters was made for consoles to begin with and have a much more arcade feel to them I'd say. Well worth checking out.JackBurton-Me wrote:I despise all first person shooters. They have always seemed mindless and pointless to me.

Aliens on the Spectrum, purely because it was the first FPS I ever owned and it scared the crap out of me to play it!
Aside from this I was always a fan of Virtua Cop (but not very good at it).

Star Wars: Dark Forces without a doubt, for me it was the perfect combination of technology, story and gameplay.

Duke Nukem Forever... er, I mean Duke Nukem 3D!
I really love this one, it was one of the first "adult game" I played and it was with this game that I discovered the multiplayer mode (no online connection, just several computers in the same room). And Duke's voice and cues are just classic!

For PC it has to be Call of Duty (The original one). Having played MOHAA to death vCOD is where things really took off with online play as people started to get broadband.
Going further back tho it has to be something like Goldeneye on the N64. My mates and I wasted many hours playing this in MP.

Duke Nukem 3D. Doom with attitude! I never tire of Duke's one liners.
Re: From the forum question for issue 64
Well, Doom was the one I was most technically impressed with when it was first released, but I don't really like FPS games all that much as a rule.
So, based solely on time spent playing it would have to be Quake!

Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II was just amazing in multiplayer. The massive modding community gave the game such longevity. A great use of the Star Wars franchise!
