Pre orders for Wii and PS3 ?

Does anyone know if any shops are taking pre-orders for the machines yet ?

The only place I have seen is play.com I think but after the awful reports about how they dealt with xbox360 shortages I would rather deal with somebody like game or gamestation. Surely it can't be long before they announce pre-orders ?

I walked into a GAME store yesterday, and I think I saw an A4 sized advert saying that they were taking pre-orders for PS3.

Didn't pre-order one myself though! I've only just got a new PS2 (my old one I had since 2001 packed up a few months ago). There's still plenty of life for the machine with some very good titles being released recently (Taito Legends 2, BUZZ!, Sensible Soccer & Shadow of the Colossus spring to mind).

I have however looked at some PS3 screenshots, and by god they look good!

I wonder what will they look like on a non-HD TV?

Speaking to a friend yesterday he reckond Gamestation have already had more expressions of interest than pre order slots so have stopped taking them for the PS3. Â£425 though im thinking a second hand 360 pre order a Wi and have some change.

erm.. is an "expression of interest" the same as a pre-order then ?

And since when were they taking "expressions of interest"

Still haven't managed to place a pre order for either of them at the moment.

Current state of play....

play.com - taking orders for the PS3 but not guaranteeing delivery before christmas and making you order 3 games. No Wii pre-orders yet.

GAME - apparently had some kind of list for the PS3 but the who company has already used their allocation ???? No sign of the Wii yet.

HMV - Looked at me like i was some kind of idiot and said...errr... no

Gamestation - wouldn't answer the phone.

Tesco/asda etc - Not taking orders yet as far as I can see.

Now I know this is a retro forum but there must be loads of Ninty fans gagging for a Wii (fnar!) and there must be at least one person planning on shelling out for the PS3 so maybe we could make this the official update thread and anyone who manages to place a pre-order could post here and let us know ?

In GAME they have adverts saying you can ''register your interest'' in the Wii and PS3.

I can never understand people buying consoles on launch day. Wait 2-3 months and save yourself a bunch of money. Theres more games choice too.

And pre-ordering is insane in the extreme. You queue up for yours and the store hasn't enough. You get to the front and theres none left. Now what will you do ? Go buy at another store ?? What about your dosh ???

I can't see the wii being much cheaper after 2 or 3 mounths. Its just nice to be one of the first to play a new console I had a release day ds awell.
