ebay has become useless now - I cant remember the last time I didnt see some common-as-muck master system game that wasn't listed as @Look RARE!!!@ wow madden 98 for £6quid...bargain....i dont think.
To be fair, Madden 98 for the Master System would be pretty rare...

i really only go for:

Vinyl records
old games and systems
cheap doovds and cheap cd's.

if i come across a game that isnt rare but people put a high tag on it (Virtua Fighter 2 on Sat for about £10-15), then id laugh in their face, too. that games only worth about three quid at the very most.
Thing is, i actually passed on a mega drive when i bought a load of games. he said ill throw it in with the games, £3. then, when i got home, my MD started to play up.

always the way.

It depends what you're looking for. I picked up Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Island on the C64 for £1 each. Also, be patient. There are bargains to be found on eBay.

As for boot sales, most of my collection has come from there and I have never paid more than £15 for any single item. Heck even my boxed Vectrex I found for £12, although I have been going almost every Sunday for the last 4 years.

I agree with the comment earlier. No one is forcing you to buy their goods. If they ask silly money for something JUST LEAVE IT ALONE. I've heard people ask way over the odds for non game items so its not like they're picking on us retro fans. The times I've picked up bargains more than outweighs the times I've come across over priced (in my opinion) items and I'm sure most people on here will agree with that otherwise no one would bother going to boot sales anymore. If worse comes to worse, there's always the thrill of rummaging through someones boxes of old machines and games. Much more exciting than seeing a sellers proudly displayed porn collection

Mixed experiences at car boots, really. Got some good cheap Master System games like RC Racing and Bubble Bobble, and some old Acorn manuals for 10p a pop.

But then you see the same people with the same stalls full of the same old games and DVDs week in, week out. There's a guy at my local boot sale that's always got a box of PS1 games. In the two years I've been here I reckon he's sold 1 of them, if that, but they're always, always there.

Every time I'm there I have a flick through just to amuse myself, checking that the same stuff is there at the same price, and so it proves. Tekken 2 on the PS1 for a tenner, no instructions, cracked case, eternally.

Best thing was the last time we were selling ourselves, and we had boxes and boxes of VHS tapes we were trying to shift. Out of about 250 we sold about 10 all day, until the last half hour before packing up. A woman who must've been in her 60s or 70s was looking through for absolutely ages. We're thinking she's going to come to us with all the period dramas, maybe Casablanca or some of the old musicals the missus had.

Couldn't believe my eyes. She bought about 25 tapes, nothing twee at all - just horror and action flicks including Scanners, The Thing, Predator 2, Universal Soldier and Rambo 3. We were absolutely wetting ourselves laughing on the way home.

I have a little trick i use at car boots and that is, i eye up what i want(console, games etc) and then ask the seller what said item is or what computer these play in (cartridges, disks) and find that if you act dumb, they try to flog them to you, and i usually get a good price. :D

Yes, yes I have... and 8 out of 10 times they offer it to you at the asking price anyway!!
Ok I would only do this if I didn't particularly want whatever it is, but it depends on the seller a lot!
Most people a jumble-sales etc are just trying to get rid off some old tat, but there are some at the larger organised boot sales that are out to make money and will try to get the best price thay can. If it's to the point of dishonesty, I'd do my best to turn the tables on them, surely that's my civic duty, isn't it ;)

I once pointed out that someone was selling C64 games way too cheaply, he had a large box and was selling everything for 10p each, nothing hugely rare, but I've seen others selling C64 and spectrum gamed for around £3 each! I was offered a free C64 that they had just thrown out!
They didn't up the price, as they were just trying to flog as much as possible and the rest would be thrown out with the C64 (they didn't think the computer would be worth anything!)

Sometimes honesty does work, but I will try to get things for as little as possible off someone who is trying/willing to scam me!
