I had a copy. If ever a game justified piracy it was RotR!

No: 18 Quazatron - Spectrum

So difficult to chose just one game but this has to be it for me. Pushed the Spectrum to its limit. Fabulous piece of music on the menu screen. Sure, the scrolling is sluggish but this is more than compensated for by the wonderful gameplay. Sheer class.

Hey new member, love the mag! I saw you guys were voting so I thought I'd add a racing sim to a list that is lacking.

17 - Richard Burns Rally

I think it will go down as the classic rally simulator, amazing physics engine that simulates every element of an engine down to the individual cylinders, and a thriving mod community that is updating (and retrodating) the game with new cars and additions every day. Now if we could just get the 30 minute tracks of Mobil 1 Rally Championship in there it would be perfection...
(Honorable Mention) Grand Prix Legends - I still can't play it that well cause the controls are so finnicky, but that just confirms that you can't drive a 1960s formula 1 car with an Xbox controlpad, and that the drivers of that era were incredible. And an incredible sim.

Uh, aren't those a bit too recent to be deemed Retro? They were released on current-gen consoles/PC.

If this is the same two-year-old Richard Burns Rally for Xbox, then, yes, it's too new for this kind of list. Something for DC would be all right, probably, but not something for Xbox. donsyob—wanna pick something a bit more retro instead?

OK well, Richard Burns is about as old as Vice City, but it is a retro list. Also Burns sadly passed this year and the publisher folded (was part of Gizmondo) making it seem older, but...

18 - Tie Fighter

Being the bad guys was never more fun.

After reading this entire thread (a feat in itself, it's like war and peace !) .. and so many GREAT games mentioned ... I have to give kudos to the guy who picked "Get Dexter" for the CPC ! - AWESOME game .. but my game will have to be:

16 Super Puzzle Fighter PSX

The reasons behind it ? .. well, I don't think me and my gf have played a game together as much as this - still today always worth getting the PS1 out for. VERY addicitve and a game which i will treasure forever.

Ultima IV - Quest of the Avatar

The grandest of the Ultimas (and to this day Richard Garriott's personal favourite). Ultima IV was the first CRPGs to introduce morality as a vital part of gamplay, and one of the first to deviate from the trite "kill the evil Wizard" storyline. A truly epic game.

Ah! Finally! Was afraid that noone would mention Ultima. (oops: someone did. sry, no. 92  ) Ultima IV-VI are the best of the series IMO. (Part VII 1&2 come close in second place)
