The original Chuckie Egg wipes the floor with its sequel.
Elite has a purity thats lost in Frontier (though I still like that game).
Mercenary was never really matched.

I think what usually happens is they feel duty bound to build in layers of complexity to sequels that aren't really neccessary, and that's what kind of spoils it for people who admired the simplicity and fun of the originals. Some games just hit the nail on the head on the first try, regardless of technology.

Super Mario Kart. Absolute perfection from the moment it was made. No sequel has come close to it, the worst of the lot being Mario Kart 64, hated it for all but battlemode.
Starwing. Still looks, sounds and plays gorgeously. All the finesse and style was lost as the graphics became less sleek and more textured, the flight-engine was completely altered and the crew became blessed with obnoxious American voices.

Double Dash beat the pants off of Mario Kart, since we're comparing sequels on different platforms.Captain Commodore wrote:Super Mario Kart. Absolute perfection from the moment it was made. No sequel has come close to it, the worst of the lot being Mario Kart 64, hated it for all but battlemode.

I thought I was the only person who thought that.broton wrote:Speedball is better than Speedball 2.
I was really annoyed when I got a nice new TV and the status bar at the bottom (the score and time remaining etc.) was off the bottom of the screen. They used a bit too much of the overscan

Thanks for reminding me... another one to add to my list.Captain Commodore wrote:Starwing. Still looks, sounds and plays gorgeously. Starfox 64 > Starfox
(both beat the current game on the Cube though)
Starfox is good, the N64 version is better. Totally sublime brilliance in a metal can

Really ? I definitely preferred target renegade.
For me I would say the original Sonic is better than any sequels.

It's a silly question because, especially on a retro game board, the answer can only ever be "About 99% of them"

Starfox is great, the N64 version is weak. I completely agree that Starfox Assault is utter bollocks, it's just a crap clone of Rogue Squadron 3 with Sylvanian Families.Mayhem wrote:Thanks for reminding me... another one to add to my list.Captain Commodore wrote:Starwing. Hell no, Double Dash is adequately decent gaming, the original was perfection and without a doubt one of the greatest games of all time.malignantpoodle wrote:Double Dash beat the pants off of Mario Kart, since we're comparing sequels on different platforms.Captain Commodore wrote:Super Mario Kart.
