I consider the Playstation to be retro enough. Was playing Moto-racer the other day and getting the nostalgia feeling for when I originally played it, back in 1997 or whenever. The memories of meeting my partner, remembering a time when I seemed to have more disposable income, the people I worked with, songs I listened to, etc.

It fits my criteria of a retro console.

Don't be dissing the mighty Saturn, though.

To me that is also very true, especially as I was 11 in '97! For me, the PS1 brings great memories because it was such a big leap from the likes of the SNES!

Anyways it is retro because it is no longer commercially supported (with the exception of downloadable PS1 games through Sony's online store)

Here's how it boils down, over time of course.

First it was fan named PSX, then PS, then came the PSOne and obvious mention that it was to be succeeded with the PS2, therefore came the PS1 note. Since it is not officially known as PSX (since there is already a Sony console by that name) you can call it either PlayStation, PS, or PS1, while making a side note if you own a PSOne variation. PS1 could represent PSOne since PS without numerics can only mean the original or 'first'. Basically anything that's not PSX.

Personally, I refer to it as PS1 or PlayStation while rarely treading 'PS' grounds.

I'm SO GLAD someone pointed out the difference between the PS1 & PSX. I thought before clicking on this thread that people would be pushing for that. I just call it "Playstation" as apposed to PS2 & PS3

I prefer "PS1", but these days Sony refers to the original PlayStation as the "PS one" - just check the PSN store. So if we're to follow the official line, PS one it is.

Not officially. It was termed that by journos and it sort of stuck. I imagine its codename was something odd and Japanesey.
