Back to 80’s vs 90’s dual feature

Post by Eric » Mon Feb 25, 2019 3:57 pm

“Back to 80’s vs 90’s”

A 2 page feature based on the Back to’s that compares the current issue month of 80’s and 90’s.

For example the left page would be December 80’s with the right page December 90’s.

Nick would revist the original Back to’s to select a game or two to focus on for each decade together with relevent game & movie charts.

No need for news, mag or music info as the focus would be more on the games themselves.

I like the suggestion and I think it would be quite interesting.

Let me add something.
I would suggest to use this set up to include highlights in differences in industry trends in the 10 year time span.
Topics could be the most various, taking specific examples (games, companies, people...) as reference to make the point- maybe not necessarily sticking to the same month in the two different decades, but at least taken from the same year number (e.g. 82-92).

For example:
How games were published/distributed
Coders lifestyle image
Gameplay and technology breakthroughs that echoed in 10 year time, becoming standard
Shift from 2D to 3D in games
Holographic ganes vs VR? Ok that was all 90s...
80's laser disc games vs 90's interactive movies
Relationship evolution between games and other industries
Games industry landscape (geography, size..) evolution
Country specific evolution in games industry (for less covered countries that have produced significant games in any of the two eras)
How the perception of what is trendy and funky changed in 10 years
How the perception of what is retro changed in 10 years (eheheheh!)
How games magazines were done and information availability
Typical gamer or games magazine reader profile

Of course, I am not suggesting to run such a feature each month, but rather inserting the odd one from time to time.

Cheers

I also agree with this. back to the 00's is just not interesting.

Also, there must be a feck load of stuff that can be covered in a re-run of the 80's/90's that was missed in the original articles.

Actually, to make the feature more flexible, one could compare the various decades (70s, 80s, 90s and 00s), maybe choosing two each time, using the perspective suggested above.
Or this might be a completely new feature, to be honest.
Personally, I like features where the talk is about how we were, where we thought we were going and how, and where we actually went.

The 00's don't hold much interest for me either.

as a late subscriber i missed alot of the ealier years.

Maybe you could re-release them with some slightly better quality pictures?

works for others
