Just found a load of 1989 - 1990 Kerrang and Metal Hammer mags

Post by Shinobi » Tue Feb 12, 2019 10:05 am

As per titles I found these In the attic from the days I was into Heavy Metal. They all have the free stickers still attached and most of the Free posters (Well Except the large Gypsy Queen posters they went on my wall) Motley Crew book etc

Feature interviews with Metallica, Iron Maiden, Gypsy Queen etc. Also found a few sew on patches of a female heavy metal band negative kisses, and a patch featuring an electric chair entitled ‘ride the lightening’

I thought I had binned them all years ago.

Did anybody else read other magazines as well as Gaming mags. Think these where the only non gaming mags I ever bought

I used to buy loads of mags. More gaming mags than I care to count since I started pre-Crash/Zzap, but ignoring those, other mags I bought regularly were:

SFX
FHM
GQ
Loaded
Esquire
Maxim
Bike
Classic Bike
Performance Bikes
Back Street Heroes
Streetfighters
Empire
Ravers
Computer Arts
Digit
3D World
CGI
..and loads of other general computer mags like PC Format, Computer Shopper etc. I'm another who bought at least a dozen mags a month.

Clearing out my loft for insulation and flooring at the moment, found a load of the arty PC mags from about 15 years ago if anyone's interested. I reckon most are headed for the skip, there's just too many to do anything sensible with in a short time.

Used to buy Classic Rock magazine,
Till it became all about "This months top 50 is" and the free CD's became rubbish

Others where
Manga mania, till it stopped,
Neo, urgh to much moe crap, it also got tedious with its front covers

-Manga Mania - stopped not long after they finished Akira. -Can't recall when that was.
-Evo car magazine, subscribed for a couple of years around about '99 on.
-Kerrang, maybe a bit later 2003-05ish.

-PC Zone about that time up to about 2006ish.
-Edge, maybe a few times a year, since the 16 bit days. Stopped not long after they dropped Red Eye.
-Retro Gamer - periodically since I sacked off Edge. I was only really getting Edge for the retrospectives anyway.

I'm not old enough to go back that far as I was born in 90 but I do have some MH mags for Maiden stuff although I've stopped now, mostly for me I tended to get mags related to my transport so I went:

Mountain Biking UK
Classic American/ Practical classics (Have a Humber and wanted a MK2 Escort as my first motor)
Banzai (I got a Civic as my first motor)
Performance BMW

I don't tend to bother with mags now though, I struggle to read them, I have my phone to amuse me while I poo and until recently I tended to drive to where I needed to go as local public transport is diabolically poor.

When I was very young I used to read Match magazine for all of my football needs.

Started reading Kerrang in 1994 around the time of Smash and Dookie being released. I then progressed on to Metal Hammer as I found new music and found it to be more interesting, plus you got free CD's. I do occasionally have a flick through them every now and then to look at tour dates and album reviews but do not have enough interest in new music to buy Kerrang and Metal Hammer is now £6.99 an issue.

A few years ago I had subscriptions to both Total Film and Sci-Fi Now. I do sometimes regret ending the TF subscription as it was a good price that I was on but I was skint at the time so let them lapse unfortunately.

Moved more stuff in my loft. I seem to have a mag hoarding problem I wasn't aware of.

I have at least 10 stacks of various mags, each stands about 2 feet tall. 8 o how there's more...

This feels like group therapy. Hi, I'm Knightbeat and I have issues! Several piles of them, in fact.
