Yeah, no issue with the F word - I just hope the day never arrives when it's acceptable to use the C*NT word!
Why is F**K okay but not C**T? They are just 4 letters on a page. You'd not survive in our house for long my then, my GF uses the C-word more than I do, she is Scottish mind!

As a writer, I tend not to censor what someone else has written/said to me - the F word I always use asterisks for. But then, the most recent piece I submitted has the phrase "holy crap it worked" in; I left that in because it puts across what the person said and HOW they said it, echoing how they must have felt.
As a reader I would be unhappy if it was page after page of obscenities. I'm not a prude, there are times bad language is merited. Retro Gamer has always struck a good balance, to my mind.
P.S. Seems like my issue 190 has gone astray as it has yet to arrive...

The F word is pretty commonplace now - I don't generally use it but loads of others do. But the C word is just more offensive.

Mostly this, I have left the F word when the context is needed. I don't think I've done this more than a few times though at most.

With all this talk of foul language, I can't believe nobody has mentioned the constant repeated use of the 'A' word, something nobody needs exposing to, much less kids.
Atari?

Really enjoyed the feature about getting the best picture quality; I've got an N64 and it's smeared six ways to Sunday on my midrange HD TV
The N64, with it's early polygon tech combined with heavy use of biliner filtering and heavy use of fog effects just weren't meant to be viewed without a heavy dose of scanlines and phosphorus pixels (I.E. a CRT). Most HD displays also don't correctly display 240p content. They often see it as a 480i signal, which adds tons of interlacing and other ugly artifacting.
Your best bet, aside from keeping the N64 on a CRT, or emulating, would be to mod an N64 system with UltraHDMI. This is the best it's going to get for displaying an original system on a modern HD display, and it's still not great.

They may have produced some junk in their time, but also did some good... hoping the A is for Amstrad
EDIT: Ah! just saw Antirads response

I was surprised by the f words too - it's not something I expected and hit the wrong side of balance in my opinion. If I had kids I would've considered Retro Gamer a "safe read" too - not that kids are the target market obviously. It's not like it's watering the magazine down by not including a few swear words.

I won't buy the magazine again. I've been getting my 7 and 9 year old into retro gaming and I first bought Retro Gamer at their request. I haven't read every article but what I have read has been a safe read.
Then my daughter asks why an article "has so many bad words?" There are THREE f-bombs in a short interview with The Oliver Twins. I don't remember them swearing on their YouTube videos or reading f-bombs in interviews I've read with them before. They add nothing to the context either:
"anything you f*** around with is a waste." - "mess" around
Word not even necessary:
"there's a f***ing great big picture of Dizzy"
"it was a lot f***ing harder"
F*** off Retro Gamer.
I'm going to call you out on that one - its extremely unlikely your 7 year old would be reading an RG mag, and if they did they'd probably be bored after the first half page and put it down. I've got a 7 year old myself who is into gaming, and loves watching me retro game and he also reads gaming mags (Minecraft etc), and wouldn't touch an RG mag.
Got anything better than that?
