Are you sure it was ever released?

Last Ninja 2 remix
Elidon
Vixen
Equaliser powerhouse wonder rip off
Rambo

Most of those are reasonably short and easy to finish but highly enjoyable

I'll always go for Bloodwych - a tremendous 2 person split screen co-op RPG, that my wife & I spent so long playing, and mapping, all that time ago..

Even all these years later I'm not sure that I've had a 2 player local co-op that's been quite so engaging.

Too many to name but the ones that still make me feel warm inside are:
Myth: History in the Making
Turrican 2
Bards Tale
Paradroid
Elite
Bruce Lee
Lords of Chaos
Thrust
Fort Apololypse
Rescue on Fractalus

All awesome games :)

Tossing in my suggestions as well... these are not what I would consider the 'best' games from a technical point of view, but rather those with which I personally had the best sheer fun! It means high (re)playability even if graphics & sound might discourage you :)

Agent USA
Boulder Dash
Boulder Dash II
Bristles
Bruce Lee
Castles of Doctor Creep
Crystals of Zong
Ghost Chaser
H.E.R.O.
Lazy Jones
Paradroid
Slurpy
Space Taxi
Spy vs Spy
Super Pipeline
Super Pipeline II
Toy Bizarre
Ultimate Wizard

In terms of stuff that I'd still play today....

Cliff Hanger: as prev mentioned, it's basically a Road Runner game that never was. Single-screen puzzle type thing with slightly odd movement
Snare: top-down puzzle-shooty thing with an odd 45% screen flipping gimmick
Samurai Warrior: excellent scrolling fighter with very light RPG elements
Blue Max: possible a bit of nostalgia involved here, but a very entertaining isometric shooter
Caverns of Khafka: definitely nostalgia involved here. Odd exploration platform type affair with mega dodgy controls by the Forbidden Forest guy.

Any love for Rocketball out there? Essentially it's a rip off of the film Rollerball. It's one of the best sports (if you include fictional...) games on the C64.

Never played that one.

Another game I forgot was Barbarian, loved that as a young kid

We played Rocketball a lot at the time, though I've not played it again since the early 90s to see how it's held up.

Citadel would be a favourite of mine, the Electric Dreams puzzley shmuppy thing, not the game from the Beeb of the same name.

Sorry if I've missed them in the thread but has anyone mentioned the great C64 flight sims Microprose used to make?

C64 version of Gunship was possibly the best helicopter game ever. Was 'gamey' enough to be worth a mention I think. As is F19 stealth fighter.
