It's not even a holy calendar? Tssk. I guess I'll have to look at the Nightmare of Santa Claus and Chillout games ad for some festive cheer

I've only just started reading the issue but it looks fantastic this month. I'll be reading it cover to cover.
Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 188
Love seeing the coverage for Arcade Club & Play Blackpool, the North West of England is the home of retro!
Now all we need is an article about Fab Cafe & Prinny's fun Nights of Gaming.
Really appreciate getting the calendar, it's a really nice bonus.
On the subject of Xmas covers, probably a bit late for this year, but if you're doing separate covers for subscribers anyway, how about doing the subs cover as an Xmas one & the non-subs as the generic one.

Haven’t done any yet. Still weeks to go. Crazy these people getting everything done by end of November !greenberet79 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 30, 2018 7:24 amI agree with all the other points but not this - I have most of my Christmas shopping done, I've been on a Christmas night out, all the Christmas lights are on around town and the shops having been pushing Christmas since October!Darran@Retro Gamer wrote: ↑Thu Nov 29, 2018 11:43 amI personally feel the 29th of November is far too soon for a Christmas themed cover.

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 188
Just been flicking through the issue. Some great stuff this month. VERY happy to see the feature on Arcade Club, its an amazing place. History of Baldurs Gate is my favourite so far. Was never a huge RPG fan but that game changed it all for me in the late 90's. Had the original 5 CD version (later the 1 DVD was much easier !). Amazing game. Still play this on my ipad now, absolute classic.
Other articles didnt grab me instantly but sure they will when i go back over it
Bit gutted theres no Xmas cover but if it was the lowest selling issue back then i totally understand the reason then for not doing it

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 188
A very boring subscribers cover. Could use some jingle bells... anyway useles to mention sales when taling about xmas covers because subscribers already paid. And theres also a choice of delicate december dressing.
Anyway way too basic cover. This sub cover would not do well in the stores. I dont want line art in my covers. Already had this before too...
Oke enough cover wining for me.
Contents looks interesting.

Really good to see Arcade Club in the mag. It's all I've had chance to read so far.
Sorry, but I also want to raise the lack of Christmas cover. That old chestnut. Pun intended
I think further discussion is needed because this does indeed crop up most (every?) year.
I totally agree with Antiriad's post about the Christmas cover. The argument against having one, now there's a separate cover for subscribers, seems long in the tooth and is unsatisfactory. The point about the last Christmas cover being the worst seller isn't compelling. Maybe that cover was generally just a not liked and/or not very good? Or perhaps the main article 'Cover Tape Wars' wasn't what the readership wanted? Or the reviews section didn't cover the right games? What was the next worst selling cover? And the next one? Comparing sales figures with the magazines cover doesn't imply causation. There are many other variables to consider.
I'd like to see RG run a subscribers poll to see 'Who'd like a Christmas cover 2019?'. More than 50% for then we should see a Christmas cover. RG staffers? Darran?

I'm sorry, but we've no current plans to run Christmas covers. If we do change this stance you'll see a Christmas cover next November

Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 188
Makes sense since then it raises the question why there is no Diwali cover or Eid al-AdhaDarran@Retro Gamer wrote: ↑Fri Dec 07, 2018 4:30 amI'm sorry, but we've no current plans to run Christmas covers. If we do change this stance you'll see a Christmas cover next November![]()
Re: Retro Gamer - Issue 188
Missed opportunity to deliver that december vibe to subscribers-only with a warm cosy cover.
The current sub cover is just boring and cold frankly. No more line art plz.

It's funny, I was doing a bit of research over Christmas and dug out a load of old gaming magazines from a variety of eras.
With a few notable exceptions (mainly Zzap and Crash) Xmas covers have been very rare over the years, at least on gaming
mags, and in the few years I looked at
