Re: Your New Retro Gamer Community Team
I don't remember there being a mass ban in on go, just people getting (deserving) bans over time.
I would love to see a load of new members join and hope that prople (myself included) would not shoot someone down for starting a topic that was posted 8 years ago.

Re: Your New Retro Gamer Community Team
The forum has been in decline for a lot longer than the period after the great schism. Just have a look at how long the 'Is this forum going down hill?' topic has been going for.
One fairly uncontroversial thing that could be done though, would be to get rid of the filter that substitutes 'Cheap MDF rubbish' for the name of the room used for food preparation. That served a purpose a long time ago, in discouraging a persistent spammer, but is just an annoyance now.

Re: Your New Retro Gamer Community Team
Are you making many posts about your food preparation room?
The forum wasn't as lively as it historically had been, but the big cull preceding the AUP change really did take its toll. We lost good members to that, both through the cull and people leaving as a result. It really was shocking to have people outright banned forever then rules put in place after the fact, instead of just temp bans/warnings and an explanation of the new rules coming in.
Tbh, it isn't possible to even properly review those cases now, as much of the 'offending' material was deleted, so there's nothing to compare to. The best you can do is ask Darran (or the superiors who forced his hand) for the info on this.

Think most of those bans were in order (You only have to see the same people bickering over there about everything) but banning MarcoPoloman was a bad bad move. Ex-Mod, did a lot of stuff for the forum in his free time and was banned just due to a controversial topic. At the time it wasnt a bannable offense, but he got banned, THEN it was added to the AUP after. Ridiculous move
Its like me driving 30mph in a 30 zone but then later they change the sign to 20mph maximum and i get a ticket !

Haha yes, man that Cheap MDF rubbish spam was annoying but the replacing the word with cheap MDF rubbish was pretty funny.

A strange silence from out new community team since Friday morning, and no indication of when we'll be moving from the current policy of 'ban first, change the rules to fit later'.Antiriad2097 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 30, 2018 5:14 pmWill not? Good to hear. When will it be changing to this new policy?

Re: Your New Retro Gamer Community Team
It's worth pointing out that the new community team are based in America and work Monday to Friday. I doubt you'll see much response over the weekend from them as they're not workingAntiriad2097 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 7:15 amA strange silence from out new community team since Friday morning, and no indication of when we'll be moving from the current policy of 'ban first, change the rules to fit later'.Antiriad2097 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 30, 2018 5:14 pmWill not? Re: Your New Retro Gamer Community Team
Are they in a time zone remotely relevant to ours, or can we expect delays of a day or more in responses due to the difference?

Re: Your New Retro Gamer Community Team
A Small Forum connected to a Uk magazine that specialises in retro games, whose Forum members and community are all practically exclusively UK based. Will speak on things that are relevant to the UK including current events, and a lot of retro stuff like the speccy that are mainly a UK thing.
And they farm it all out to a new community team based out of the UK.
I don't know what to say, I really don't.

Re: Your New Retro Gamer Community Team
Yeah and perhaps Future can pay for a dedicated 24/7 team based here paid for by all the revenue this forum doesn't generate
We should be pleased the forum is getting a bit of attention at all, not slating the people because of the way the type or because of the country the work in. I bet they are reading this and thinking... yeah I can see why people drift away from online communities.

Re: Your New Retro Gamer Community Team
We had a good local team. Key members were banned for discussion within the AUP, then the AUP changed retrospectively to suit that.
I think this is when the events occurred if the team want to investigate further.

Now, as a task for the team, how about getting an in-house index of the mags finally sorted?
At the moment one of the readers has compiled this, but something official would be good:
