Why do you hate your readers?

Post by jacklboy » Mon Nov 26, 2018 1:48 pm

Through the years I have seen a number of comments about the small font size you use, the poor color schemes, and the insanely tiny image captions. You always seem to suggest that something will be done... but nothing changes. When will you design your magazine so that it is comfortable to read?

Also, the idea of "Back to the Noughties" is great, but it would be cooler if it jumped around. It would be nice to see what was going on during a month in 1984 one month and 1992 another rather than a constant progression during a relatively boring era where little changes.

Wow! Retro Gamer staff hate their readers!

I find that very hard to believe jacklboy - the few minor things you bring up are niggles rather than the staff punishing its readers because they hate them

There are parts of the mag I'd like to see changed but I don't think the staff hate me because of it

Relax, have a cigar and write a little letter to the letters page.

Some interesting points, some valid ones that are bought up frequently...Lol not sure if they sit around the meeting table laughing about which font and colour scheme the punters will struggle with the most though!

The magazine has already done Back to the Eighties and Back to the Nineties.
Some complained when it jumped around, so it became a chronological feature.

Totally agree with Merman. Would have been a pain if it jumped all over the place, having it in order is great. As he says its caught up doing the 80's and 90's so you cant go back to do a month again (as people would complain). Back to the 70's (mid-late 70s starting) would be good

As for 'do you hate your readers' - come on ! Theres been the odd bad colour contrast but nothing major

Personally, I don't bother reading Back to the Noughties. I am of that age where that partucular period is of little interest to me. I would MUCH rather they did the "Back to the 80's Again" - from the beginning - perhaps just reviewing and adding to what was printed previously. Most stuff past '94 / '95 just seems like the 'modern gaming' side of things to me.

Yes! That would be better than the 00's (and inevitably the 10's 😫). Stick with the Classic Gaming period!

I'd love to see to see a "Back to the 00's". 80s has been done and the 90s will be done eventually so it makes sense. I have no interest in the 70s or earlier.

Eh? They are already doing "Back to the 00's" and have been for several issues at least.

Yeah! Maybe he doesn't read that bit of the mag? I don't! 00's are rubbish and not retro enough for me

Well, where I'm up to issues wise (up to issue 148 currently), that is not in the mag. So if it's in now then awesome.

That said, the 80s-90s will forever be the golden age of gaming for me, as you had the best of both worlds across all systems, as there was a clear games difference between every console. Nowadays it's very same same across the board.

Yep, the 80s and 90s will never be outdone - a lot of the game developers focused on innovation and pushing boundaries.

When are we getting back to the 80s and 90s bookazines? Nearly everything else from the mag has been reprinted in some sort of special over the years so why not?
Atari 800XL thrashes the C64 every time!!!
(well, nearly everytime)
(OK, some of the time)

Why not indeed. Sounds a good idea :)
