PS2 + Component Cables + HDMI + Wall Mounted LCD = Help!

Post by NeppyDreamy » Tue May 01, 2018 10:04 am

I know, a long and annoying thread title. And most of you probably consider the PS2 not to be retro anyway, while I consider it the last good generation of gaming (before DLCs and such plagued games and consoles became more and more irrelevant after around 2007 - thanks Windows Vista and your ridiculous difference between system requirements between you and XP!)

Anyhow - I have PS2 (PAL), and some component cables. Unfortunately my LCD is mounted in the wall a certain way which blocks the component cables. I'd still like to connect them, at least using some sort of Component to HDMI, because there's a free slot for HDMI on the side of the TV. I know it means wires everywhere but heh. Anyhow, thanks ^^

Here's a converter that should do the job for you:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/COMPONENT-YPBP ... B00ENH8OV8

Some things to think about:
1. It needs an external power supply, which it comes with. Some other converters require you to supply your own.
2. The image will be digitized and processed so there may be a slight reduction in image fidelity compared to directly using a component cable. More expensive converters generally do better than the cheaper ones at this.
3. This device has up-scaling to 720p/1080p on board. You may find cheaper one ones that just pass through at the same resolution if your TV does a good enough job at this.
4. You'll need a spare HDMI cable as well as your component cables.

My TV doesn't do a great job of upscaling: it simply seems to stretch the image and leaves a slightly larger border on the right. The 720p/1080p upscaling seems like a good idea.

Luckily I already have a spare HDMI cable ^^

Might have to ask my dad about buying this, it'll be nice :3
