Re: SNES Mini Announced
Mine just turned up at work. Since Starfox 2 had been dumped already, I may just sit on it for a few weeks and see if the prices go silly at Christmas and flip it. If not, I'll give it a whirl.

Re: SNES Mini Announced
Can you use these SNES pads, with their nice long lead, with the NES Mini? I'm guessing you probably can?
Re: SNES Mini Announced
Didn't manage to get a pre-order, missed out by a few hours back when the they first went up.
And since then it's been a bit of a pre-ordering shambles, with Nintendo seemingly happy to not commit units to any stores in volume.
So, imagine my surprise when I managed to log onto ShopTo at lunchtime today and actually place an order for a SNES mini!
Admittedly the web page was a bit broken, and took absolutely ages to register the order (even though PayPal immediately confirmed the payment), and now I have a DPD despatch showing delivery on Monday.
Quite happy with that

Re: SNES Mini Announced
Arrived today thankfully. Well done Game, you had me worried.
Had a play of most of the games, they're certainly brighter and much nicer then what the Wii U Virtual Console offered picture wise, certainly very crisp sprites. The boarders are a nice touch, I had no idea some of them change colour while is pretty nice (Though playing Super Metroid with a colourful boarder was probably not the best choice. XD). Other features from the NES Classic still work well too. Once again, the quality of the tiny system is awesomely cute.

Had a blast tonight. F-Zero is just thrilling, Yoshi's Island's level design and variety - wow.

Re: SNES Mini Announced
why don't nintendo commission loads of these they can't be expensive to make and they would earn a fortune
Re: SNES Mini Announced
They're meant to be restocking these through into next year so they probably have commissioned/made a lot of em. The launch stock might be hard to find now, but the next few weeks/months will be interesting to see if Nintendo really does keep up demand....

Re: SNES Mini Announced
I managed to just walk into a store and buy one yesterday, which is a good indicator that they'll be much easier to come by than the NES Classic.
Interestingly, the hardware inside seems to be almost identical to that of the NES Classic which suggests that both machines could see further production runs if the demand is there.

Re: SNES Mini Announced
Wonder if the same hardware is powerful enough to also emulate N64.........*cough*..........

Re: SNES Mini Announced
Me and the boys had an hour's go on it earlier. Despite the naturally pixelated graphics, they seemed to like it, especially Mario kart and SF2. All seems like a very slick package to me, and plenty of gaming to be had. Controllers are good, felt robust and it's all very clear.

Re: SNES Mini Announced
In theory it should be. Teardowns suggest that they're using an Allwinner R16 which is a quad-core SoC about as powerful as the one in the Raspberry Pi 2, and that can run N64 emulators. That's not to say that there wouldn't be other hurdles to overcome to get it to market, such as licensing the games and tweaking out the glitches that inevitably come with emulating hardware that's far more complex than machines from the preceding generation.
Re: SNES Mini Announced
Received AOK. Cute wee systems have yet to plug either the Mini NES or SNES in though! Not for scalping reasons, just haven't yet. One rainy sunday!

Re: SNES Mini Announced
Nice to see my local Game had a big stack of them behind the counter, I trust everyone's been able to nab one just fine this year right?
