Gaming elements that annoy you.
After reading the thread game genres you don't like I've been inspired to ask which parts within a game that really annoy you.
For example I love to play a good 3D platform game, but have always been annoyed by the seemingly pointless time trial racing section. If I wanted to race I'd play a racing game!
Constantly breakable weapons, I get annoyed after picking up what seems like a perfectly acceptable sword or bow only to have it break after a couple of battles (I'm looking at you Breath of the Wild). I do hope if the Master Sword appears in this game that that doesn't suffer the same fate.

There have been games were they give you the ability to dress your character but it's clearly to your advantage to dress a certain way because of the stats boost those clothes give you, so you are effectively punished for wanting say a more minimal look or you end wearing clothes that aren't as athesetically pleasing just so you remain competitively strong in the game.
RPGs are the obvious example of this and yes it may be rtealistic that different amour serves you differently, but it's also in Def Jam The Fight For NY, were you haved to bling yourself up to upgrade.

Never really liked the “find the key” elements to classic FPS like Doom and Quake. I guess you need some reason to go all over the map.
Re: Gaming elements that annoy you.
Easy. Forced stealth sections in any non stealth game. Pretty bad back in the PS2/Xbox/GC era where they were shoehorned in all over the place. And they never worked, mechanics were rubbish, difficulty was too punishing etc.
Also, escort sections in games. Again, rarely work well and almost always frustrate - see both Ys 1 and 2 for example. Both have sections where you get an auto game over if the person you need to protect dies, and they can only take a couple of hits and can't fight back...
Also, in terms of optional stuff, nothing is worse than padding out a game with hidden collectables. Almost always pointless to collect and is just such a boring way of padding out a game.

Re: Gaming elements that annoy you.
obviously, maze sections in adventure games. Common in many older ones, thankfully not so much now.
Excessive and pointless swearing in games. Its just so childish and for some reason almost overnight pervaded the videogame industry, the need for excessive profanity.
I kind of hate locked door syndrome nowadays. Even though the Resident Evil series is one of my all-time favourites I find it hard to re-play some of the older ones because I just cant remember the locations too well. And cant read maps too good either
Yeah I also hate the aforementioned designing your character thing, especially in games like sports games and soforth where its just absolutely pointless.
But probably my biggest pet peeve is 3D games with excessive jumping. Tomb Raider, Mario Galaxy, these types of games drive me up the wall, its ok where there are sections of jumpy bits but most of the whole game is just flat out annoying to me.

QTE - though i will say this gen has reduced these elements. Just cheap deaths and frustration - god of war series does this.
Plus pressing a certain button frantically to stay alive or to open a heavy door.
Limitless add ons to weapons or too much weapon choice to begin with, most players just stand there holding fire to emty their clip regardless of what named peashooter they have.

Ok scratch that last comment about this gen not using QTE.
Just started call of duty WWII
There are annoying bits where you mash a hard to see button as a soldier suprise attacks you, then you have to drag the left analogue stick to the centre of a ring on screen before pressing another button which again isnt clear to kill said soldier. Not fun.
Oh and theyve returned to medi kits not time healing.

Especially ones where you can stand next to a NPC for an hour but when you talk to them, they suddenly say "This must get to X in 5 mins or it'll explode" or suchlike. It kinda breaks the atmosphere for me a little.

I feel the pain, time limited events can be evil at times.binaryRooster wrote: ↑Tue Nov 07, 2017 1:47 pmEspecially ones where you can stand next to a NPC for an hour but when you talk to them, they suddenly say "This must get to X in 5 mins or it'll explode" or suchlike. Great shout. It's not so much the chore of the battle it's the sudden-ness of it, usually interupting you just as you're about to do something else.

Water levels on platform games such as Mario, cannot stand them.
Mario 3 at least had the frog suit which made the water levels slightly more bearable but usually I just find them to be annoyingly sluggish.
