From The Forum issue 171 - Best In The World
Hello, massed friends! It's that time of the month where we ask you to rummage around your mental filing cabinet, find the thoughts you'd be willing to share in public and then record them on paper. This month's big feature is a bit different, so I thought I'd do a question to match. And it is…
Which game do you think you'd have the best chance of setting a world record on, and what would the record be?
The record could be highest score, most consecutive victories, most hours played, fastest completion - anything, so long as you think you could do it better than anyone else.

For a few years I was at the top of the high score table on the Space Harrier machine at Funland in Southport. I have no idea how because I was rubbish.
But, if I summon up my past self, I reckon I'd be able to pull off this record:
Highest score reached on Bubble Bobble on the Master System, without using a controller but instead using a pair of pliers to short the necessary pins on the joypad port.
Bit specialist, I know, but I once reached the first boss doing this.

Oh! Either that, or:
Highest score reached on Chuckie Egg for the ZX Spectrum, played with the TV off.
I could manage a few levels by using the sound (because it came out of the beeper rather than the TV) and remembering the patterns and timings. Got pretty hard once the lifts were introduced on level 3 mind.

A few years back I actually won the Atari Jaguar High Score competition on Atari Age and still hold the records for Dragon: The Bruce Lee story and Missile Command 3D among others.

Greatest number of deaths by shotgun in any Gears of War PvP game.

Probably none! I enjoy games but very average at most, censored at others
Old arcaders Gyruss and Time Pilot with a bit of practice would be my best bet I think.

Manic Miner on the Spectrum. High Score. Am quite confident that, once 'in the zone' I can outpoint Simon Bickerdike's efforts, all of which are registered on Twin Galaxies.
Here's my last (late at night) effort in the Retroleague:
103,489
Yeah! 4th Circuit. Silly lives lost as it is getting late and I'm sleepy.

I reckon I could get pretty close on some of those Pinball Arcade machines. Although NBA2K17 I've stated to become quite formidable on, I reckon.

I'm confident, with enough attempts, I can win 15-0 against anyone on the original PONG. An unbeatable world record. Bring it.

Three of us got approaching, or past half a million, when we played the game as part of the Llamasoft YakYak forum challenge one time...
Re: From The Forum issue 171 - Best In The World
Silkworm (C64 Version) - Number of levels completed using the Jeep.
I'd always pick the jeep in two player games even though most people would pick the chopper. I just liked extra game-play mechanic of aiming the gun on the jeep and got rather good at it.
Trailblazer (C16 Version) - Number of levels completed
I could get very far if 'in the zone' or until my sister, jealous of my progress would tickle me while I played the game!

I held a World Record on Twin Galaxies for the last 4 years.
I showed it to someone at work last month and It had been beaten. Twice.
When I say beaten, I mean smashed.
It was an absolute chore trying to set it in the first place. I know I'll never regain it.

I could probably set for World Record for not setting World Records, though I did complete the original Mortal Kombat within an hour of buying it, and not on the easy setting either...
