Obscure Platform games
Anyway, I've been trying to focus on the games of late and really got into Rescue Rangers Nes, 'Smurf: Rescue in Gargamel's Castle' and Smurfs Travel the World (Snes)all of which I enjoyed and passed several hours over the course of a month or so. The real deal on original consoles as they where intended to be played! Smurfs travel the world is one of the greatest games that ever got made, you can even play as Smurfette BRILLIANT!
I'm on the lookout for other obscure platform games staring cartoon characters.. Did Potsworth and Co. AKA Midnight Patrol Adventures in the Dreamzone get a release on console? The cartoon had a scrumptious sense of style even though the 'Grand Dozer' was a lazy tyke as all he did was lie on his bed just chilling.

Re: Obscure Platform games
DoReMi Fantasy and Go! Go! Ackman are pretty neat and have an English translation too...

Re: Obscure Platform games
How about the 'Back To The Future II' game on the Snes? Very cartoonish graphics.
Might have only been released in Japan?

Captain Dynamo is very good. Takes a bit to get used to the jumping animations and gravity but once you do, is a very good game.
Sir Fred on the Spectrum was an excellent game

Re: Obscure Platform games
I would argue the Atari 7800 version of Nebulus (Tower Toppler) is the best actually as apparently it used the C64 code as a base and then made improvements on it.
I wouldn't say that either of the Saboteur games are platformers though, they are definitely arcade adventures.

Re: Obscure Platform games
I've never played the 7800 version but graphically (from watching a YT video), it certainly doesn't look as good as the C64 or Amiga versions. The Laird wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2017 6:40 amI would argue the Atari 7800 version of Nebulus (Tower Toppler) is the best actually as apparently it used the C64 code as a base and then made improvements on it.

Re' Saboteur. Yes, it's definitely an arcade adventure but I'd argue that the two genres have a lot of cross over features and mechanics. By it's very nature, the genre is defined as jumping between platforms at its core - which Saboteur does.
WikiP says "It involves guiding a player character or avatar to jump between suspended platforms and/or over obstacles to traverse their environment."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platform_game
I'm certainly not arguing with you however as I kind of agree. Just pointing out that the definition pretty much includes any game where you jump onto, off and between platforms of some kind. I might be wrong but I don't think the presence of re-traversing locations automatically makes a game not a platformer.
Having said that, I'm not sure I would consider something like Ghouls 'n ghosts a platformer - that's probably more an arcade action game right?

Re: Obscure Platform games
I think it looks better than the C64 version personally, more colours for a start. Not as nice as the Amiga or ST versions though, but it plays better IMO.Gigifusc wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2017 11:26 amI've never played the 7800 version but graphically (from watching a YT video), it certainly doesn't look as good as the C64 or Amiga versions. The Laird wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2017 6:40 amI would argue the Atari 7800 version of Nebulus (Tower Toppler) is the best actually as apparently it used the C64 code as a base and then made improvements on it.

Yeah, that's an interesting one. It actually plays a lot like a run 'n gun in many ways.

Premiere is an excellent cartoony platformer on the miggy. In fact I'd say its the best platformer on any computer.

Re: Obscure Platform games
There is a Snes platform game with a little fairy girl that looks like DoReMi Fantasy it was a little text heavy in the intro but a really good platform game when you bypassed the Jibber Jabber.. I own Go Go Ackman I always though your character looked like 'Trunks of Dragon ball Z'and I always felt uncomfortable with that Nappy wearing Angel boss, and a little to hard for my liking.. But I promise to prevail in acquiring a translation rom of this powerful product DoReMi Fantasy:)

Re: Obscure Platform games
Indeed I do Sir especially Brainy Smurf, Grumpy Smurf and Smurfette with her natural blond hair and dark blue eyes:)aztecca wrote: ↑Thu Jul 06, 2017 12:57 pmYou sure do love your Smurfs mr bakerTom_Baker wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2017 7:16 pmSmurf: Rescue in Gargamel's Castle' and Smurfs Travel the World (Snes)all of which I enjoyed and passed several hours over the course of a month or so. NES
Darkwing Duck was pretty good, it's heavily influenced by Megaman.
Asterix - I guess he counts as a cartoon character, only released in Europe so gets overlooked, it's a solid game but perhaps is most notable for having some of the best music on the system.
GBA
Go! Go! Beckham! Yes seriously. It's a unrecognisable cartoon David Beckham kicking a football through a platformer.
Drill Dozer - It's pretty well regarded but I'll still mention it as you seem big on original hardware and this has a special rumble cart. Import only.
