Re: The Most Difficult Console games Of All Time
One of the crappiest hardest games of all time was Jack and the Beanstalk on the Speccy
Think it only had 4 or 5 screens, on the second screen you climbed the beanstalk but the enemy detection was SO bad you just fell off it for no reason at all. Again how on earth this got released back in the day was a joke, surely they had friends or family test it, they would have said it was crap.
Total waste of money that game was

The title says console games

Re: The Most Difficult Console games Of All Time
Oh, that's okay. I really should have made the title so it covers a much broader range of games, I don't know why I made it consoles only, must had been a late one that night.
Any way I can change the topic to The Most Difficult Games of All Time?
EDIT - Title has been fixed!!!

If we are talking computer games as well then Bad Company on the ST springs to mind, that game is ridiculously hard, which is a shame because it looks beautiful!
Re: The Most Difficult Games Of All Time
The Ninja Gaiden (NES) games & Atomic Runner (Genny/MD) used to regularly kick my teeth in back in the day. Good times.
Re: The Most Difficult Games Of All Time
Battletoads had me smashing the controller which I felt guilty about as it had belong to my best friend

Re: The Most Difficult Games Of All Time
Don't forget TMNT on the NES.
That blooming swimming level. Have completed the game a few times but think I'm too old to do it again now.

I can remember it took me ages to get past the first big boss in Shinobi on master system and yet the arcade version is supposedly much harder!!!

Three stages. An edited no-mess up run on YouTube reveals the game to be three minutes long.psj3809 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 13, 2017 6:12 amOne of the crappiest hardest games of all time was Jack and the Beanstalk on the Speccy

The first and last mission of the original Driver game on PS1 were both torture - by first I mean the training mode. Once you got the hang of it you could whizz through the challenges but that god damn garage as a 12 year old was a nightmare.
Re: The Most Difficult Games Of All Time
I am so glad I passed up on Driver all those years ago.

Re: The Most Difficult Games Of All Time
You missed out. The garage difficulty level is overhyped imo, I did it on about my second go and have since repeated it without much hassle having heard these tales. I'm not even that great at games, I'm pretty poor-average.

Weirdly it was the Amiga version I had as a kid and I remember getting past the swimming section without too much difficulty. I no longer have the Amiga but I still have the game for the NES and can't even get close to beating the underwater section. Have I gotten worse at the game or was the difficulty dialled down for the Amiga port?
What I've seen of the later levels suggests that I'd struggle to get much further even if I could beat that stage; it really does look insanely difficult.
Bart vs. the Space Mutants was another NES game aimed at kids which was ridiculously hard. With practice you can maybe get through level 1 but level 2 introduces insanely pixel-perfect jumps that instakill you if you get them wrong.
I just think that in those days people thought about games differently; they were tests of skill and only the best of the best were supposed to ever see the ending. Now games are very narrative based and the developers want people to play them all the way to the end so they've become much, much easier. I think as a kid I only ever properly beat maybe 2 or 3 of the games in my collection.
