Sorry i know its about renting tapes but talking of VHS...

Its depressing to think how much money i wasted on Britannia Video Club in the 90's, its like i had an addiction and wanted my own 'video library' in my bedroom so loved buying all the 'big name' films every month. What did i do with them ? Watch them once and put them on a shelf ! Not every charity shops will take them nowadays !

Kinda glad i got out of that addiction by not buying tons and tons of dvds (still got a fair few). But damn what a waste all those old tapes were !

I remember being so pleased that Clerks was in a 4 for £20 video sale in HMV many many years ago.

Couple of years back I picked up the triple edition DVD for £3.

It's ironic isn't it - and now you go into a Cex and you can pick up DVDs for pennies.

Tell me about it.

Unless it's Disney DVD's for the little ones which I always buy new I spend peanuts on DVD's these days. Haven't really bought one for a good while now with having Netflix. Had a clear out recently and got rid of a load which will never watch again.

I have only seen about one third of my dvd colllection. Gaming and reading back issues of Retro Gamer have been taking up much of my spare time. Still haven't seen High Rise which I really would like to view when I get the time. Its a british flick I think about the inhabitants of a High Rise. The rich are at the top while the poor are at the bottom. A civil war breaks out between them all.....

Go back 5 years or so and i would be one of the people horrified at not being able to buy music or a film physically. But i've been converted !

Picked up all the star wars films on itunes a while ago (Two weeks later they had an easter offer for £39 ! Doh !) and now love knowing i've got instant access to the films digitally.

'But what happens if the app store or itunes stops working in the future ?'. Not fussed, one it wont happen and two if it did its not the worst thing. Be frustrating but i'm not going to worry.

Also buy mags digitally often and music. Just find physical copies just sit on the shelf gathering dust. Like instant access to stuff now wherever i am

I dont often rewatch many programs (Apart from favourite films) but i might rewatch Sopranos at some point as its been over 15 years since i watched them. Problem is with SO many shows to watch on netflix/Amazon its difficult finding the time ! Just as i finish one series another one starts !

Sopranos - I find it very hard to relate to any of them which makes it hard for me to invest in it.

So you can relate to Luke Skywalker, Jack Bauer and other TV characters etc ? ;)

Thought Sopranos was great, first time i watched it (Bit like Breaking bad) i was disappointed as i heard so much hype and didnt realise it was a bit like a soap opera at times but an amazing series with some huge huge moments. Being in England i cant relate to NY gangsters but just loved the series

It was a great joy of my youth & teen years. Friday night we'ed fly off the school bus, and straight to Doc's Video. Horror classics, schlockers, raunchy comedies, etc.....goooood times. Add in some junk food and maybe a bit of beer/wine/grass, and the weekend was made!

As I mentioned a few posts back(with The Godfather Trilogy : 1901-1980 and The Godfather : The Complete Epic 1902-1959), there are a few films that haven't been released on to the new digital formats, so you might have to rely on your old VHS copy. Empire Magazine done a list of them, see the following :-

God, I miss the video-store. As a kid my best friend Andrew and I used to sneak into the off-limits adults section of the video-store complete with sliding curtain for privacy. We would often get a good 20 minutes perv on the backs of the tape covers before being chased out of the store. No matter how quiet we were, Mrs Poppins would chase us out eventually.....

Seriously, the proprietor's name was 'Poppins'? lol Mrs. Poppins' Pornos?

Ahhhh, the adult section. Often (barely) concealed by a curtain or a few strings of hanging beads.

LOL! I think it was her name as everyone called her that. She was quite nice when she wasn't chasing us out of the store. She would let me rent Psycho Fox for a whole week for $3, even though everyone else only got 2 nights worth. God, I must had rented that game out about 30 times and still couldn't complete it.....

I went to join Blockbuster circa 2001/2002 when I got my first full time job. I never did return the application form (application form!) and not long later Lovefilm appeared and I was happy to get my rented DVDs in the post, which seemed all very futuristic and sophisticated compared to Blockbuster. Is Lovefilm still going or has is it been torpedoed by Netflix et al?

I checked my SkyQ box last night and I have 40 films on there to watch! And not to mention my Newflix subscription. These really are golden days. Kids really don't know how lucky they are. Films on 50 inch HD screens at the touch of a button.
