Sega Power's Guide To The Best Ever Sega Games

Post by SpecChum81 » Fri May 19, 2017 10:10 pm

While going through some of my old gaming magazines - Something I do fairly often - I came across an issue of Sega Power from December 1993.

In it they had a guide to the best ever Sega games.

I thought it would be interesting to give you their countdown of Mega Drive games.

Are you sitting comfortably?

Then I'll begin...

100: Columns

6: Landstalker
5: Jungle Strike
4: Aladdin
3: Sonic The Hedgehog 2
2: Street Fighter 2
1: Flashback

And breathe!!

A most interesting list.

Some timeless classics of course, a few strange choices, one or two turkeys, some games I have very little memory of and some games I've never even heard of!

The Mega Drive still had a few years to run post 1993 and there were of course more great games to come.

It was great to read through, even though these lists are made to spark debate as much as anything else.

They also had top 30 lists for the Master System and Game Gear, but I'll leave those for now.

What do you think?

Truthfully, horrendous list.

Flashback at no 1, streets of rage at 26.

Humans, mig 29 all ahead of the likes of castle of illuision.

Davis cup tennis at 15? ahead of the likes of rocket knight adventures.

yeah, not impressed in any way whatsoever.

Well, I did say the list was interesting!

Games that I would have put in my top 10 aren't even in their top 30!

But it was great to find the countdown and I shall be emulating and checking out the titles I've never player or heard of.

As for Point Break - It was a movie from 1991 starring Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves. I haven't been able to find any info on the game, but I guess it was released as a tie-in to the film...

This is a top 100 Mega Drive games list, and it doesn't include Revenge Of Shinobi anywhere?

Invalid.

I couldn't find Shadow Dancer either. Both games are also criminal omissions from the Ultimate Mega Drive Collection on XBox 360/PS3.

I'm also bemused as to why they included Golden Axe 3. I'm a big fan of the game but I remember a Sega Power review from back in the day that gave it 34% .

You mean Psycho Fox? I used to play that every weekend. I could only ever get to the Ice Level's Big Boss.
How do you defeat that censored?

I understand phantasy star 4 not being there because it wasn't released yet. But why isn't buck rogers on there? Awesome game.

Ha ha I vaguely remember this top 100 and remember getting shitty at the time over it.

I love Flashback, although still wouldn't have it at one. Plenty of glaring omissions
