Your go-to MAME games

Post by ncf1 » Mon Feb 06, 2017 10:15 pm

MAME's next, what games do you fire up straight after setting up those 5000-odd games on your hard drive?

I tend to initially get drawn to :

Donkey Kong
Outrun
Galaga
PacMan
Phoenix
Double Dragon

and always never fail to get a quick fix of fun. :P

actually I'm still on Donkey Kong, for months now.. cant believe I'm still going at it.

Mr Do!, Sinistar and Bubble Bobble usually. Every now and again I get the urge for those games. If I want a bit of the old arcade days nostalgia I have a spin on Gorf or Astro Blaster, the two games that most evoke those memories for me. It's the sounds I think. I didn't actually play them that much back then but they remind of Butlins and fairgrounds for some reason.
If it's slower than me, dumber than me and it tastes good ... tough titty.

I only have a MAME emulator on my S7 phone (Mame4Droid Reloaded) at the moment, but I usually only play Chase HQ anyway.... I do have SF EX+Alpha as well but its difficult to play on a phone without a Bluetooth controller. I do have one but its crap, so will be upgrading that soon!

The standard Sega (OutRun, Turbo OutRun, Outrunners, Super Hang-On, Space Harrier, Virtua Figher, etc), Capcom (Street Fighter II, III and Alpha in all flavours, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, Alien vs Predator, etc), Midway (Mortal Kombat trilogy, Killer Instinct, NARC, Primal Rage, Smash TV, Total Carnage, etc), Konami (TMNT, Sunset Riders, Twinbee, G.I. Joe, Salamander, etc) stuff. Back when Japanese devs really dominated the scene and Atari was still a big name.

I got given a MAME disc for my original Xbox several years ago and spent hours playing through the classics before the console got relegated to the loft in the upgrade to the 360.

Really miss this & have been desperate to play some MAME recently as I love the old arcade games :(

God MAME's fantastic! Generally, I'll use it for older games that struggle to make it onto compilations so hard to find anywhere else. Games like Jungle Hunt/King, Kangaroo, Ozma Wars, Uni wars, Kamikaze, Targ. I love Targ, such an old simple game and really addictive
